Mundane magic item that became a lifesaver.

Have ever given out or received an item that ended up being one of the core items of the party? An item that saves teh day almost every session or gets used so often you wonder how you ever went without it?

Currently that item in the party I game with would be my characters Cloak of the Arachnid. That item gets passed around so often that you would think it was party treasure instead of my beloved belonging. ;)

So lets hear your stories of amazing items.

I put a 7th Fighter against the party when they were only about 3rd level. He had taken everyone down except the Wizard who had only one thing on his person. He dropped a Feather Token at the fighters feet and the resulting Tree picked the Fighter up(he failed his reflex save), and slammed him into the celing of the dungeon and the resulting impact and fall killed him. If that hadn't happened the whole party would have died.

Not sure about a whole party, but a former Paladin of mine cherished his Ring of Water Walking above all of his other items including his Holy Sword. Originally I did not even want the item, since this was second edition and we all remember the Paladin's restrictions on magic items. Turned out to be my most prized posession.

Horn of Good/Evil saw quite a lot of use, considering that it could have been duplicated by low-level spell. (that no-one cared to pray for. Ever).

I had a buddy with a ranger with one of those rings. Unfortunately for him we used those really old really brutal crit tables from some Dragon Magazine. One time he used the ring to charge out to battle a slightly larger then hatchling red dragon that was swimming in a near boiling lake.

First round the dragon hits, crits, and bites his left hand off. We all stood there dumbfounded as the ranger in full plate armor sank to the bottom of the lake. We werent sure if he cooked first or drowned first. We werent going to try to save him. Mommy rose up out of the lake and we all scattered. My character was already outside the cave as one of the fighters started running out the long narrow side tunnel we had found.

We had thought it odd that the dragon would leave this easy way in and out. As he ran down she stuck her head in the one end and breathed. My character who was standing at the other end was pelted with this rain of fine black dust. It was all that remained of the fighter.

So in two rounds we lost our primary melee guys to stupidity and a ring of water walking. ;)

In 2e, my charac ter got a ring of cantrips, 1 cantrip per round.

After looking through cantrip spells in 1e, I discovered that 1 cantrip a round is utterly sick!

Ask Cor, he'll tell ya, he gave it to me :)

I sense the practical joker from hell approaching. ;)

Well, he was a gnome thief...

2e prestigation, and this was in the description: "If you know where an item is on a person, you can use prestigation to take that item, if it's under 1lb in weight." or something like that.

Pay with a gem, they put in strongbox, I take gem back.
Super-thief!
