Mundial 'Germany 2006' Divinations

Their defence was barely adequate. If they can't improve on it they are going to really break down against the big teams.

They are too agressive and subject to getting beat as a result. A team like Brazil would eat them up. Germany dominated but those 2 Costa Rican goals may come back to haunt them if Poland can rebound from their loss. Goal differential matters.

Polland is up against Germany next, and it's all or nothing for them. And while the 4 goals for Germany were good, the 2 goals it suffered (in practically the only two attacks by Costa Rica) showed that the defense system is indeed faulty (even if the second Costa Rican goal was scored from an illegal position).

Tomorrow, I predict a win by England and (hopefully) a defeat for Argentina. Go Ivory Coast!!! :)

Certainly agree about the England game (though I'll be rooting the other way) but I''ve predicted Argentina in the other match. In the third match of the day, I'm going out on a limb and predicting that Sweden will beat Trinidad and Tobago.

Grr, so far in my office pool I've got both games wrong. I picked a draw for germany-costa rica and a win for Poland.

So far, no surprises.

Argentina is, arguably, better than Brazil right now (going by the qualifying matches). It's going to be a tough game for England.

:) I'm a fan of Argentina untill 1982 when I first time saw Maradona.
I always thought you are (Claudio Pozas, one of my favorite fantasy artists) Argentinian, but I was wrong. I remember that when we used your Lidda portrait on session, somebody said, she looks like your countryman Natalia Oreiro :) :D  .

My divinations:
ENG : PAR - 1:0
TRI : SWE - I have no idea
ARG : CIV - 1:0

I don't think Trinidad and Tobago has any chance against Sweden. I'll consider it a miracle if they somehow manage to win.

The other two matches should be very close. Rooting for England and Ivory Coast.

30min edit:

England is on fire! They would be leading by 5 goals by now if only they had their finishing touches in sync.

60min edit:

They've wasted several scoring chances. And somewhat lost control. What a weird match.

And finally:

England wins with the single goal of the match. What the heck happened to them? It looked like they were going to steamroll over Paraguay at first.

The match was the dullest so far, and i thought the referee was a tad poor.

still the year we won we drew our first match 0-0 so u never know!

England seemed lost in the offense, and the fact that they won through a self-goal by Paraguay doesn't bode well (and to think Bekham had the nerve to say that Pelé wouldn't have a spot in his team... Get a grip, Dave!).

And we have our first zebra!

Trinidad & Tobago managed to keep Sweden off the score (0-0)! For the first half T&T was very violent (this lessened in the 2nd half, after a T&Ter was expelled), rushed and T&T's goalie performed a few amazing defenses. But Sweden showed that they lack any sort of offensive, missing near-perfect goal opportunities on both halves. Even with one less man, T&T managed to hit the crossbeam of Sweden's goal. So Sweden continues its history of not winning a first match in a Cup since 1958 (when they had their best result: 2nd place, losing the final match to Brazil).

Next up: Argentina vs. Ivory Coast!
