music editing

First Post
I am looking for a sound file editor. I am creating a music disk for a theatrical performance and need to have crossfades, etc. I have used protools in the past and there is the free version, however, it says it will not work on xp. Since that is what I am using, does anyone know of either a way to make the free version work or of another utility I may use in its place?

I'm more of a video editor, but I know that my company uses Soundforge - it's pricey at around $400 though. I have a friend who has gotten nice results from Goldwave, which is only $55. Both are easily findable via a yahoo search.
