Mutant Chronicles for D20?

That's kind of needlessly snarky don't you think?

Well no more so than the original post but whatever. My intent wasn't malicious in any case. Honestly, who likes liver anyways? :)

Seriously though, I've had thoughts about running a lot of dark, sci-fi, large amounts of hot lead games: bughunters/Starship Troopers, Doom, etc. Since these genres emphasize firearm combat, I would rather use a system designed specifically for that. The SR ruleset differentiates between various weapon types, mods, and battle conditions better than the d20 ruleset IMO. That's all. I'll drop to lurker mode in this thread to avoid further hijacking.

My problem with SR -while it is good for a dark campaign- is that in my opinion the creation of NPCs takes a bit slower than the d20 system. And the various rolls (attack, defense, skills) require a higher number of rolls than d20.
And you could add sanity, cyberware (let us hope that D20 Cyberspace will give us a better cyberware system), demons, etc. from all other books. This is the greatest thing in D20. And its relative simplicity. Of course you could add all kinds of house rules that suits your campaign setting. I would reccomend using the autofire rules C. Baize and I advised since in the novels and books ( I mainly read Michael A. Stackpole books) almos everyone used automatic firearms.

Well I don't necessarily agree about the speed of the system because I know it fairly well but I definitely agree about d20 "simplicity", at least when it comes to mixing and matching and tailoring things to fit your needs.

For my Doom idea, I specifically chose SR because I would be tailoring it down quite a bit: human only, no cyberware, limited selection of weapons, no wealth/resources, simplified skill list, etc. Granted my concept is probably best-suited for a small, half a dozen session or so, campaign arc where the players want a quick but high-action/high-intensity dark and gritty futuristic dungeon crawl against swarms of demons. For something with the potential for a long-term campaign, I agree you would probably need a more fleshed-out system.

I've been thinking. If you want a more deadlyer combat, but if you want to stay close to the "system" as possible use the instant death variant:
If anyone rolls two successful critical threats and after that a hit you got a critical death blow. Roll for Massive Damage. (I'd add that you should raise the MDT DC by 5).
So a Death Blow DC should be the normal +5.
This should be also applien when the DM sees it appropriate. (Like jumping on explosives)
