[Mutant Future] Raiders of the Mind Lord's Tomb

Pickles finishes licking his wounds and lumbers towards the rest of the group.

"Big weasels, things blowing up?" he says. "I like rain better. Be good."

With that, the great raccoon ambles off into the elements.

OOC: If no one posts by tomorrow, I'll assume that you agree to visit the site of the explosion first.

Ivy lifts an eyebrow at the raccoon creature's unceremonious departure, but then again, who's to say that wasn't the smartest move after all?

She looks back at the others.

"I don't know any of you, and you don't know me. I think she's..." she trails off for a moment as she recalls Valla's appearance in her 'unfurled' state, unsure if the pronoun really applies, then shrugs it off, "...she's about this pit, and about the source of the explosion. It's risky, but a place that can generate that kind of energy may have a good deal of value. Enough for all of us and then some."

"I was going to check it out myself, but it's always a better idea to have a team if you can. I propose we join forces."

Yella scratches his chin thoughtfully. "You may be right, Ivy. The unknown awaits discovery. Should we light up some torches and explore a bit?"

You light a torch and proceed down the vine tunnel. The passage has a definite slope, and it begins to wind like a corkscrew. It becomes damper as you descend. These lower vines are mostly dead. They squish and slosh beneath your feet.

Before long, you find yourselves in the weasel den. It's just big enough for the two great rodents. The walls and ceiling resemble a bird's nest of gnawed-off vine. The floor, where it can be seen beneath the shattered skeletons of prey, seems to be ancient tile. Besides the tunnel you just came from, there's a passage that opens into a drafty darkness.

"Curious," says Yella, holding the torch higher as kneels, pushing aside shattered skeletons and other debris to get a closer look what seems to be ancient tile.

Valla would have raised an eyebrow if she had any, but settles for a soft whistle instead. "Looks like there could be ruins here too! Wonder if its all one big place?" Even with the torches, Valla fades from view as the light bends perfectly around her. She stays a bit ahead of the others in case anything ishy is attracted by the light.
OOC: Is the tunnel heading in the general direction of the hill?

The tunnel slopes downward and eventually spirals. It grows damper as you descend. Many vines at the lower level are dead, and squish beneath your feet. The tunnel ends at the weasel den. It is a dome of chewed-off vines large enough for the two beasts. The floor is strewn with the shattered bones of their prey, but there seems to be ancient tile beneath the refuse. A cold, musty draft wafts through a second opening in the den's wall. You see only darkness through the hole.

OOC: I posted yesterday, but the forum ate it! So far, the tunnel seems to only go downward.

"Hm," Ivy hmms, offering no immediate opinion. She brings the flickering yellow light of her torch nearer the skeletons, and first nudges them then lifts them up, looking to see if there was anything left of their belongings. None of it would do anyone any good down here, after all.

"The presence of these tiles intrigues me," Yella says, perhaps more to himself than anyone else. He pauses and tries to pry a couple loose. "Obviously, this area was once a structure of some sort. People once lived here. Perhaps."

Poking at the skeletons proves unrewarding. Most belonged to large rodents or reptiles. There is one carcass that catches your attention, though. It's a humanoid torso with four limbs. A pig-like skull hangs onto it with a broken neck.

The tiles are solid gray and blue. It's fairly easy to pry them up. All you find beneath them are beetles, worms and cockroaches.

As you continue to search the den, a stone or concrete structure crumbles and crashes to the ground nearby. A dust cloud wafts past you.
