Mutants & Masterminds Character Gen Time?

Ah, but did you do that the very first time you did character gen? That's the thing with the first time bug. There was no way I could know all the rules and answer all the questions and it's hard (even with the veteran gamers I run for) to keep the "ooo, that's cool" bug completely at bay. Folks like to know their options first time around.

We actually did do many of the things you mentioned including point cost charts and the like. The problem was the powers section along with the number crunching. Some people just suck at math. I've also determined that I don't love the official character sheet. It is nice but I'm looking (or will create if I have to) to have a sheet that is a tad more straightforward.

I look at it as growing pains for the group. If we knew the system a little better, one or two books (I always like to have one for just me) would have been just fine. :)

Actually first time we played we did it like you did.. passed the book around folks perused to thier hearts content and ended up picking what they liked the sound of, as opposed to what fit thier concept.. from a GM's perspective it was a nightmare... hence I instituted some more organised method of producing characters that did not base around them just picking the potent powers and ignoring the rest.

First game for us one of the players in my group took the cosmic power, incoporeal route... which was very munchkin'ish though as it was thier first game with the system I let it pass.
The others however had something more specific in mind beforehand.
