D&D 4E My 9th 4E Demo - With original monster crunch

I'm with you there too--I think 4E is going to be the most fertile soil for growing new DMs that we've seen since the Mentzer Red-Box and the 1E DMG. That's pure speculation really, but just the whole attitude and philosophy reflected in the Wizards Presents essays reflect this drive to bring the fun back to DMing. If prepping for a game and running the game feels like doing homework--in front of your friends--most people just aren't into it.

I don't think I can handle the fiance aggro of trying to run 2 games a week though, so I think those other folks are going to have to find another campaign. :heh:

In my Thursday night group, we have five people wanting to run 4e when it comes out.

That's five out of six people volunteering to DM. In the 18 years I've known some of these guys, I've never, ever seen this.

I've DMed for every edition of D&D since I was eleven years old---until 3.5 finally convinced me to hang up my dice and fold up my screen. Too much work, too much frustration. "Homework in front of your friends" is a very apt descriptor.

If it were not for 4e, I wouldn't even count D&D among the games I play any more.

Secret Hope: The rest of my group will become less dependent on adventures and make more stuff up on their own.
Secret Fear: That it's all a dream and DMing won't get any easier with 4E. Maybe just because we now have actually to think about our plots! Nobody is going to cut me some slack if everyone knows that DMing 4E is easy-peasy!

;)

:D I had the very same thoughts. If the mechanical aspects of the game become as easy as advertised I may have to trouble to get away with my extremely thin storyline and transparent plots :P

Then again: Combats will still take a lot of time to get through, so I'll probably be able to save my ass by throwing hordes of monsters against them if I didn't have enough time to properly prepare for a session :)
