Obryn

...and I almost picked it up. Little did I realize it's not supposed to be released until Tuesday.
Anyway, I didn't buy it yet - I had planned to get it from Amazon - but I can run back and grab it if need be
It looks like a good book, from scanning through it. Packed full of stuff for $30. It's a great DM tool, and very, very functional ... It's very reminiscent of Draconomicon. Very, very reminiscent. It starts with a bunch of generalities about "ecology" with discussion of the Shadowfell, the Raven Queen, and Orcus.
It's got some skill challenges, including a pretty damn awesome one which treats a zombie horde as a skill challenge. Which, I think, is a great way to do it. (There's also a "zombie throng" later on, a level 9 brute which is more or less a big ol' undead swarm of zombies.)
Artifacts? We got some. Book of Shadows, Sword of Kas, Mask of Kas... Some of them are really, really cool.
Then it picks up and gives a ton of mini-adventures and lairs. Some of them look really cool, like a high-level romp inside the body of a dead god.
Then it moves on to the monsters. And holycrap, there are a lot of monsters. I didn't pay all too much attention, but there were some cool bits and pieces. I noted lots of different skeletons and zombies; some lich variants; and tons of generally creepy creatures.
It wraps up with some undead heroes & immortals. Acereak, with some minions. Kas himself is here. Some dude I didn't recognize who has the artifact Whelm. Strahd, who has his own special kind of zombie minion. A lady lich servant of Vecna. And ... oh, yeah, Vecna himsef. With a whole level 35 thing going on and an aura that damages living creatures and heals undead.
I didn't notice any options for PCs, unless you count a few rituals. No paragon paths, feats, or anything of that nature. It's clearly a DM-only book.
So yeah - it looks really cool, and I plan on picking it up. I can try to answer questions by memory, but I haven't bought it yet. I'd rather get a 30% discount than a 10% one.
