My "Best of the Dragon"

I'll be happy if they update the old articles by Bruce Cordel about the Sheen. I got a lot of use out of those machines...
I think the Creature Catalog has some Sheen conversions.

Johnathan,

What about what previous posters have recommended above, releasing Ecology articles as PDF's? Would too much extra work be involved for you? Or would there be problems with the fact that the material that you may base some of the article on being non-OGL? (I'm not too up to date with what you can and can't use as OGL)

Just a thought.

Yeowtch! I wouldn't go that far, but then again art is subjective. I like some aspects of his illustrations, but dislike others. His stuff has a certain clarity to it that I find nice, although some of them make my stomach sweat (and not in a good way). (Wait, there is no good way.) His Fossergrim (Fiend Folio) is a good example of this--creeps me right out, ick--goofy eyes, puffy lips, blech! On the other hand, his Bog Giant and Shadow Giant pics are quite nice.

Strangely enough, I didn't think I went too far... probably not far enough! ;) Of course, these sorts of things are subjective, but I also have to include his illustration of the bog giant and shadow giant as typical examples of why I find his stuff so appallingly bad.

Each to their own, I suppose! ;)

(snip a list of some great stuff!) On the Dragon front, as you can see, half of my articles there have been "Ecology" articles, and I'm really not all that interested in writing "Ecology" articles under the current guidelines. If Dragon ever goes back to the old "fiction and footnote" format, though, I'll be there in a heartbeat (and so will the Monster Hunters).

(*Realizes that Erik Mona's monitoring this thread...keeps his fingers crossed....*)

Well, Erik, considering how good the articles are on this list, and how extraordinarily banal the Ecology articles are that have replaced it, how about changing the guidelines?

Well, besides the fact that I have no clue as to how to convert a text document into a PDF, there's the OGL consideration you mentioned. (Kind of hard to mention Ozzie the osquip, for example, when osquips aren't part of the SRD, and many of the "unpublished" Monster Hunters ecologies deal with non-SRD creatures like the gulguthydra and death kiss.) Finally, since the Monster Hunters articles have been published in Dragon, I don't even know if technically I could publish them in any other format, as I would imagine that WotC "owns" them.

Well, then you have a few options.

One, work with Ronin Arts and rename/remove the Monster Hunter bits.

Two, self publish. Lots more work involved.

Three, find another publisher who has something similiar to your Monster Hunter organization. I suggest Goodman Games. Their Wander's Guild monster books have awesome illustrations and if you could get the same artists but with your writting (the books usually have some questionable game stats...), it would be a sure fire hit.

Erik Mona I'm sorry but you had to hear this Dragon's changed and not in s good way. Don't alienate former 2nd edition players Dragon wouldn't still be around today if it wasn't for us.

Until very recently, it hasn't been my job to manage Dragon. I'm certainly not offended by criticism of the magazine's path. All feedback is helpful as I try to tame this beast and get it flying in the best possible direction.

I think a review of the last year or so of Dungeon will reveal that I have the utmost respect for long-time D&D gamers. That won't change just because I'm now running both magazines. If anything, it will get stronger.
