My Cleric Needs to Steal Something

First Post
In a Planescape game, I am playing a Halfling Rouge1/Cleric 9 of Brandobaris, deity of thieves, adventurers, and risk-taking. The cleric has chosen luck and travel as his domains. One of the ceremonies that worshipers must do is a monthly tithe to Brandobaris in the form of a stolen or otherwise purloined magic item which must be hidden away. My party has a paladin in it (who obviously wouldn't look to kindly on this) on top of which all the numerous beings you can piss off in planescape. I wouldn't want to steal anything from fellow party members (always leads to bad blood), though I might try and get another halfling in the party to aid me in some way. My question is this:

Are there any spells that could help me do this without getting caught? I already have the rougish skills as class skills, but have very few ranks in them. The cleric has a low charisma (+0 mod) and a high dexterity (+3 mod)I have access to the Player's Handbook, Spell Compendium, and PHB II. Ideally, I was thinking something like cast cat's grace and then slight of hand an item away from an easy mark with a potion of glibness nearby in case I get caught and questioned. Any other ideas?

This being Planescape, you should steal someone's regret for a good deed done well and have a third party forge that regret into a nice bauble for your rather dada-esque ritual. The Paladin should be able to go along with that all the way up to hiding the damn thing away somewhere.

Right. Planescape. Like reason says, you should steal something that no-one will miss -- the reason for a guild war, the memory of a mistake, the sadness of a lonely child.

Or you could steal a kiss from a Succubus, and seal away the negative level somehow. ;)

I'm new to Planescape so I don't really know how I would go about stealing someone's regret. But in any case, are there any other ideas? Any spell junkies know of a sleight of hand equivelant to glibness or something?

You're required to steal a magic item monthly? That seems extreme. Are there no non-adventurer worshippers of Brandobaris?

I would think small. Surely someone has magic salt and pepper shakers or something, which they wouldn't, you know, kill you over when they finally figure out the cleric of the god who demands thefts of magic items was responsible. ;)

Well, if you really want to get technical about it, cast light on a coin or something and give it to a party member you're on good terms with. Then steal it back and hide it. You didn't say it had to be a permanent magic item, or that you had to steal it from someone who cares...

The Church of Misadventure, as Brandobaris' "organized" religion is known, teems with adventuresome troublemakers who usually emerge from some dangerous endeavor better off than when they entered it. Though most halfings (particularly children) love stories of their exploits, most prefer that such events occur as far away from their communites as possible...On the night of the new moon, followers are expected to hide one or more stolen items from the previous month's take in the best hiding place they can find, a ritual known as Brandobaris' Tithe

Guess the items don't need to be magical, unless I want them to be. Still the question of how to steal them.
