D&D 5E (2014) My Crazy Theory about 2015 5e

Bad idea either way, casting a white guy for a black skinned race. We all know that Drow aren't meant to be black as in African, but think of the make-up job needed and how it would be compared to acting in blackface. The history of theater and film has a few too many skeletons in its closet to make that an easy pitch for a studio or an actor.

agreed - putting a white actor in black face is just begging for bad publicity. Might as well pre-book the actor, director and producer on with Rev. Al Sharpton, Oprah or Jesse Jackson to apologize & explain.

I skipped several pages in the middle here, but going back to the edition 5.5 or 6 idea, I would say that there is no way it would happen any time soon. Back in 2000 when 3E was released, WotC also said that they would be compiling all the errata and feedback and come out with a 3.5E in a few years. However, even though they put out that announcement, WotC still got hammered online when 3.5E came out, as 99% of the people out there had forgotten what was said back in 2000...

I don't think heavy makeup would be balked at in a sci-fi/fantasy themed film. The character in question would not be a human, so no issue.

I can see it going so well.

WotC representative: "You see, drow are evil elves who worship demons and they have black skin and lost a race war against the good, light-skinned elves."
Oprah: "..." <with jaw having dropped open>
WotC Representative: "Shall I keep digging or stop here? Want to hear about how they're violently matriarchal?"

Now I know why despite his popularity there has never been a live action Driz'zt show.... :lol:

Thor 2 showed us how to do the casting for a Drizzt film:

Thor = Wulfgar
Sif = Catti-Brie
Volstagg = Bruenor

and as for Drizzt himself, they could either change the skin tone and thus model him on Malekith, or they could stick with it and go with Algrim/Kurse. Either way would work.

Personally, not being familiar with the Drizzt books but aware of the outsider mythology, I would rather not see this as a film. Too sparkly vampire/moody teenager for my liking. However, Dragonlance does offer a clear trilogy/tetralogy and in Raistlin has the more interesting character. Vader trumps Luke and even Han for interesting conflict hands down (Hans down?). IMO. Plus, Cumberbatch and (tbc) as the Majeres and Damien Lewis as Tanis. Plus Scarlett Johanssen because, Scarlett Johanssen. Any other casting? Hobbit style size reduction Hasselhoff as Tasslehoff?

Scarlet Johanssen makes a good Tika, maybe?

I think Dragonlance has everything needed to be a hugely popular movie for today's market.
