My First Dragonstar Game

Eye Tyrant

First Post
I will be running my first Dragonstar game tommorrow night. I am using MEG's Raw Recruits adventure series, and everyone involved is really psyched to begin play. You can check out a bit about all the PCs at this link Killa Campaigns (which is a great site by the way). Anyway, I'm eager to start this game and thought I'd post for any advice from "veteran" DS gamers...

Looks like a great mix of players, Joe. Should be alot of fun to see how they interact with the NPCs not only in the field, but on the Evarstanza as well.

The only comment I have concerns the psion PC Martief Fakku. I hadn't considered psionics when designing the first adventure, but on a bit of thought, would have added something.

**SPOILER ALERT**

When the formians get within a certain distance of the psion while communicating through their hivemind, you should roll randomly (perhaps 50%) for his sensitive mind to pick up "mental whispers". While Martief cannot deduce exactly what the formians are chatting about, he gets a heads-up that the group is not alone. In essense, his 'spidey sense' is tingling. Not particularly much combat value, but a cool little thing for his character.

Just a thought! :D

I did in fact inform Steve (Martief's Player) that he could sense the "collective" conscience, but could not really discern the messages being relayed.

I just got in from the Super Bowl (well the get-together, GO BUCS!!). I will retell last nights events briefly.

Father Jack Storm gave a very "hell-fire and brimstone" service in one of the preludes. The crew heard it, but was not overly impressed.

Captain Mercucio assembled the PCs as his newest "Away Team" and invites them to the bridge to witness weapons testing. A strange power reading is discovered etc...

The Party makes it's way through the first wrecked explorer and on to meet with a deranged Orc (whom Martief communicated with telepathically to find out about "ant-men" in the area).

The PC's made their way through the first 8 "ant-men" and have just raised the attention of 19 more Formian workers. Though the creatures have proven to be almost meaningless, the number ahead has gotten the party's attention.

I can go into more detail later...

I can actually give a few more details now...

***SPOILERS***

I used the "A Divine Moment" Prelude (parts 1 and 2) and got Father Jack Storm involved in the service. Erik, Jack's Player attempted to give a performance for the rest of us, that wasn't that bad, but we let the dice tell the outcome. Like I said before, the crew was receptive, but not overly inspired by the sermon.

Later, the party was assembled and offered the job of replacing the fallen members of the "Away Team". Some of the party (Kerrick and Titus primarily) are in the Imperial Legions and are basically assigned this postion, while the others are offered full-time employment serving Captain Mercucio.

A bit about the PCs (as the Killa Campaigns site seems to be experiencing problems).

Jon Titus "Titus": Expelled from the Imperial Acadmemy of Medicine, allowed to serve in the Legions and continue persiut of his medical career. Human Expert

Kerrick Vallon: Actively serving in the Imperial Legions. Has assumed the "Leader" role. Aspire to become an Imperial Scout. Human Ranger.

Nakomi Takahashi: Soulmech Mechanist with a background shrouded in mystery. Not certain, but she believes that she was supposed to be part of some covert operation.

Martief Fakku: Found floating in a derelict escape pod near the Dark Zone. Has been employed by the Sevartha Team as sort of a counselor. Is having some trouble fitting in as he appears to be about 16 years old, but is obviously older. Human Psion with Psionic Template (Think Deana Troi meets Dune).

Ivaillius : Half-Elf from the Silver Dragon throneworld of Aelding. Very much a Han Solo sort. Rogue/Sorcerer multiclass.

Father Jack Storm: A self proclaimed missionary from a holocaustic planet Earth. Very much a cross of Clint Eastwood and Mad Max. Human Fighter with a drinking problem that is devoutly religous.

While observing the test firing of the Everstanza's plasma cannons a sensor operator detects unusual power reading coming from the planet Komanis, which is thought to be devoid of life.

The party is instructed to get ready for their first mission and are allowed time to equip themselves before meeting the Pilot Bethann Renark and Ingram Jolk on the Launch Deck.

After a brief and uneventful flight aboard the Midnight Angel, an Explorer Class vessel (shuttle), the party finds themselves on the surface of Komanis. They continuously experience communications trouble, and must spend a lot of time raising the Midnight Angel on their communicators.

The party finds and searches a wrecked shuttle. They discover the bodies of two slain Legionniares. Research prior to leaving the Everstanza informed the party that Imperial colonization was underway when a cataclysmic event ravaged the planet killing almost all life. Only 10% of the colonists survived. The bodies of the fallen are obviously freshly dead... However the cataclysmic events took place some 10 years ago...

The party moves on and encounters Grax, a crazed Orc survivor who believes himself to be a powerful spellcaster. Martief uses his Psionic powers to charm the Orc and learns of the "ant-men" (formians) in the area.

The party moves on and eventually encounters some Formian workers. Ivaillius makes short work of the first 2 before 6 more appear. The battle lasted about 2-3 rounds with the Formians getting wiped out. Fortunately most of the party was carrying slug-throwers as the Formians are immune to energy weapons.

As the group of 6 are finished off another larger groups appears over the ridge (19 more)...

We stopped there as it was late...

(updates at Killa)
Thats it for mow. We should be continuing this game on Saturday...
