My friend may end up winning Beauty & the Geek

My buddy Dave has been on Beauty and the Geek this season, and it's come down to the last episode where we find out who won. Fingers crossed that it's him! I made him promise to stroll around Harvard Square in a solid gold tuxedo if he did.

That ought to use up the quarter mil prize right there.

Interestingly, I know a contestant (Dave). My coworker Tim knows a contestant (Nicole.) And Maverick Weirdo knows a contestant (Will). That's a weird proportion -- although I'm not surprised in the least that we don't know any of the beauties.

Well, it is Beauty and the GEEK, odds are like 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon that someone on the boards would know the geeks. What is surprising is someone knowning the beauty, but then, they are not a board member are they.

Dave went from someone who I didn't like very well at the beginning to the one that I'm now rooting for. He's really made a great effort to actually come out of his shell.

One thing I've always wondered...how long are they in the house all together?

A little less than two months. They averaged about two challenges a week.

So when was last week's episode actually recorded? I'm assuming the whole series was taped awhile back and that the final two teams have had to go back to their regular lives while waiting for the phone in vote results episode to come around. What's Dave been up to since he got out of the mansion? Did he and Nicole ever hook up?

Hehe, this amuses me. "Dave, where'd you get that diamond-covered swimming pool? Oh my goodness, you won the show, didn't you?"

"I'm sorry, my lawyer has informed me I am unable at this time to explain how or even if I was able to afford the roughly quarter-million dollar swimming pool. I will talk to you . . . *checks watch* some time in mid-December."

Maybe they just don't pay him until the show airs.

I suspect the final show, with the vote results will be aired live or relatively close to it. Afterall, they can't tape the show before the voting period ends and it only started last week. Dave and the other three contestants have most likely been living in the dark for quite a while now, since the taping ended, waiting to find out along with the home-viewers whether they've won or not. The anticipation would have driven me nuts by now.

Well, Dave did win, congrats.

And really, it isn't a huge amount of money. $250,000 between two people, after taxes is probably about $65,000 each. Not a bad sum, but not retirement money.

They taped the final show this last week (if you saw someone in the audience waving a boffer sword, that was Fajitas and WisdomLikeSilence). It was in front of a studio audience, but they taped TWO endings -- one for Dave & Jasmine, and one for Sam and Nicole. The audience left without knowing who won. They kicked everyone out and (finally) actually told the contestants who the winner was.

Dave's kept his mouth shut admirably all week.

And no, not spectacular money, but a nice house down-payment. As Dave said, "I really wanted to be on Survivor, but I was afraid I'd dehydrate. So I decided to spend two months in a house full of supermodels instead." Getting $125K for that? Not too bad!
