My GenCon Report

EOL

First Post
I posted my GenCon report as today's entry in my blog. I thought I'd announce it here because I think there is definitely a clueless first time exhibitor motif to the report. Perhaps people considering exhibiting will be able to learn something from it. And more experienced publishers will be able to point and laugh. :)

Check it out. Parts of it have even the vaguest suggestion of humor... ;)

Bah, surely your experience could not of been as bad as ours was in 2002... We made so many mistakes related to GenCon. Of course, we've made so many mistakes all along the road it would scare most people considering the leap to publisher away... lol

One thing that was not a mistake was sharing booth space with Ed Bourelle. He was great to take us in and spend 4 days in the booth without so much as once threatening to kill us. Hes an all around nice guy who I think epitomizes the best of what makes our industry great.

To keep from totally hijacking your thread I enjoyed the blog entries. I was really jonesing for the insiders view of GenCon in its new locale this year.

Missed you & Ed

Hey Eric,

We missed you guys this year. If you can make it next year, be ready -- we've really tried to lay the groundwork for the "Counter Culture" to take over. ;)

Would have been great to share space with Ed this year -- if only to walk a few paces behind him and see how much he's in demand.

We used to always joke about Mike Mearls being the "d20 writing whore" -- I think Ed may soon have his name on more projects than even the unstoppable Mearls.

If they were to join forces, why the entire d20 world could be destroyed!!!! ;)

Ross, read your blog. You did much better than FDP on our first outing, believe me. And you've definately aligned with some very talented people.

Congratulations! :)

I'd have to agree with everything that has been said about Ed, and just add that he looked nothing like I'd expected. (whatever that means... ;) )

I'm also glad to know that I'm not the only one who felt like I was in over my head on the whole exhibitor thing. :D

Thanks for the well-wishes and hopefully I'll see you guys at next years GenCon.

Thats funny, because those are the EXACT words my wife said when we first met Ed (right down to the whatever that means...) Its spooky. Anyway, she still wonders if Ed's wife has ever forgiven her for that time she called at 8 AM Central Time (Realize Ed lived on Pacific Time back then...)

James - If Mearls and I destroyed the d20 world we would need to get day jobs. Not interested.

Eric - My wife told me to block your phone number but I didn't do it. If a woman answers the phone, hang up :)

This was the first year I wasn't behind a booth at the show and I had a lot of fun. I got to meet a lot of cool people and companies like the folks at direkobold.com, Fiery Dragon and the Alabama Brannons.

To keep this thread on track - Ross, I think your blogs are stupid, go jump in a lake :)

Cheers - Ed

Well, I for one thought you were going to be tall, dark and handsome - like that letter you sent to me said! Imagine me driving all the way up to Indy and having my dreams dashed! O! You brute! :(

Just joshin' ya - I love ya, Ed! ;) The best roomie in the industry, gang! Every morning, we awoke to his dulcent (marine drill instructor) tones and a subtle touch (boot to the head) that gently stirred us from our slumber (two hours of booze-laden haze). ;)

:p

And what the hell did you people think I was gonna look like?

I already told you I believe, but skinny bookish and shorter. I guess it was the raw animal magnetism that surprised me the most. ;)

(blogs are neat, just not Ross's)

Ouch! That's the last time I'm saying anything nice about you. :) From now on all my comments will be something like:

While visually stunning and technically perfect, there is still a certain soul-less quality to Ed's work possibly because the only way to explain his vast talent with maps is a deal with the Devil. I guess being condemned to the fires of the abyss will make up for the mean things he said about my blog.

So take that! :D
