My next project (#4)!

That looks alright. What I was saying was that you might want to put the information on how bonespew is made and replenished in the flavor text, like you mentioned before.

THINGS AS MOUNTS
Training a THING as an aerial mount is a daunting task. It requires a successful Handle Animal check (DC 33 for an adult, or 26 for a young specimen). All Ride checks on a THING forced into the open are at +2 DC, due to the affect open spaces have upon the beast's Blindsight and nerves. A THING egg is typically worth 6,000 gp on the open market. A paladin of 9th level or higher can select a THING as his special mount. Apply a -4 adjustment to the paladin's level for purposes of determining the mount's characteristics and special abilities. Providing the creature with skeletons could be a problem for a paladin, though. As mounts, THINGs are usually found only amongst the most martial and disciplined of subterranean races.
CARRYING CAPACITY
A THING can carry up to 459 lbs. as a Light load, a Medium load is up to 918 lbs., and a Heavy load is 1377 lbs. A THING can carry up to its Medium load and still fly.

OK, I want the mount section to look more like the one below. How are the DC and weight values above?

TRAINING A HIPPOGRIFF
A hippogriff requires training before it can bear a rider in combat. Training a hippogriff requires six weeks of work and a DC 25 Handle Animal check. Riding a hippogriff requires an exotic saddle. A hippogriff can fight while carrying a rider, but the rider cannot also attack unless he or shee succeeds on a Ride check.
Hippogriff eggs are worth 2,000 gp apiece on the open market while young are worth 3,000 gp each. Professional trainers charge 1,000 gp to rear or train a hippogriff.
Carrying Capacity: A light load for a hippogriff is up to 300 pounds; a medium load, 301-600 pounds; and a heavy load, 601-900 pounds.

The numbers all look fine to me. And if you want it to look more like the hippogriff writeup, it might be a good idea to move some of that information into the flavor text (like how a paladin might have difficulty finding skeletons, how they're found as mounts in martial societies, and so forth).

or three days later. ;)

OK, here we go. It's been hard to find time to work on this lately. How are the weight values and check DCs? We are talking about an 8-HD Dragon, with a Strength score of 21. what other variables affect the values below?

TRAINING A THING
A THING requires training before it can bear a rider in combat. Training a THING requires six weeks of work and a DC 33 Handle Animal check (DC 26 for a young specimen). Riding a THING requires an exotic saddle. A THING can fight while carrying a rider, but the rider cannot also attack unless he or shee succeeds on a Ride check. When a THING is forced into an open area, a rider takes a -2 penalty to all Ride checks, due to the affect open spaces have upon the beast's Blindsight and nerves.
A paladin of 9th level or higher can select a THING as his special mount. Apply a -4 adjustment to the paladin's level for purposes of determining the mount's characteristics and special abilities.
THING eggs are worth 6,000 gp apiece on the open market while young are worth X,000 gp each. Professional trainers charge X,000 gp to rear or train a THING.
Carrying Capacity: A light load for a THING is up to 459 pounds; a medium load, 460-918 pounds; and a heavy load, 919-1377 pounds. A THING can carry up to its Medium load and still fly.

I don't know about setting Ride DCs or costs, but all of the weight values are right except the heavy load. That should be 919-1380 pounds. In case those three pounds ever make a difference.

The way you phrased that thread, it'll sound more like House Rules... and technically, I suspect that is where the thread should be until the project sees the light of release. That, or Conversions.

That said, I see no fault with those numbers, really.

looks like i mostly have it figured out. is there any noticeable pattern with the price of eggs and young?
