My ranger Poll results: See last post. (was beating the Ranger with a better stick)

Going off of the 1 is least and 5 is most essential

5 - 1)The ranger needs to be able to track from first level onwards, hence needs it as a bonus feat.
5 - 2)The Ranger should have a +1 BAB/Level
5 - 3)The ranger, being a rugged outdoorsman needs at least a d10 hitdie.
5 - 4)The ranger needs extra feats that help him in combat, such as Point blank shot or Two Weapon Fighting
1 - 5)Provided the ranger needs the feats discussed in 4, he needs them in the first 3 levels
1 - 6)The ranger needs to be able to cast some divine spells (disregard the spell Animal friendship for this question)
2 - 7)The ranger needs 6 skill points per level to fulfill his role
1 - 8)The ranger needs a good reflex save
3 - 9)The ranger needs to be able to acquire an animal companion

Thanks to those who replied! The conclusion has lead me to make my own alt ranger which can be found in the link to my site.

WotC probably will not change the ranger too much however, so we can still complain about it in July and August.

Very interesting and informative, particularly the modes. Was quite surprised about the spellcasting issue... personally I've always thought the spellcasting was a bit out of place, but acknowledged that most others probably liked it. Guess my views are reasonably consistent.

I wonder if anyone plays with the alternative ranger rules as presented in Oriental Adventures (ie, no spells, instead the ranger gets a bonus feat every level he would have otherwise gained a new level spell).

Er... no, sorry guys, but any responses I get now have too high a chance of being polluted.

Ie, discussion is fine, but I am not going to do any more work (I am laaaazy...)
