Oh and I had to pay an extra $30 for tariffs. Last time I buy directly off of WotC in the middle of a trade war.
That’s odd. Books are tariff-free. And the tariffs are for shipments going into the US—WotC prints in the US. And also $30 is way too high for that package even if there were tariffs.

I feel like I’m missing part of the puzzle. Are you sure you paid tariffs? Who did you pay them to?

but left in the lore that annoyed PDK lore purists in the first place, making it pointless.
Mackenzie De Aramas said ar HenCom the feedback on the lore wasn't negative, kt was the mechanics. The Dragon stuff fits better as Favrion rewards, anyways.
Order of Noble Genie has great mechanics, but poor lore. It makes no sense as an Oath, and it misleads folks into thinking the class instead still divine magic drawn from Gods, even if a step removed. This could have been avoided by something when you take this oath you supplement your divine Paladin magic with magic from the inner planes. Instead of making Genies the source of your magic, I would have made this subclass a tradition started by Genies and later shared with mortal allies and maybe called it Oath of Elemental Harmony or something.
Paladins in the Core rules are not related to God's in amy way, so I don't see a serious point of confusion here.

I as a Canadian had to pay customs, but I always paid a bit when doing these orders even before.

Yeah it was likely GST

Any item mailed to Canada may be subject to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and/or duty. Unless specifically exempted, you must pay the 5% GST on items you import into Canada by mail. The CBSA calculates any duties owing based on the value of the goods in Canadian funds. The duty rates vary according to the type of goods you are importing and the country from which they came or were made in. Depending on the goods or their value, some other taxes may apply, such as excise duty or excise tax on luxury items. You do not have to pay the GST on the following goods that are imported into Canada by mail:

  • goods worth CAN$20 or less; and
  • gifts from family members or friends who live abroad when the worth is CAN$60 or less.
The Government of Canada has entered into agreements with certain provinces to collect the HST at a rate of 13 percent. If you live in a participating province, you will have to pay the HST instead of the GST.

Ah, right. He’s in Canada? So reading that it’s not a new tariff or related to WotC books or a current trade war, it’s just Canada’s standard import duties.

So that is blanket 5% import duty on all items over $20, and he paid $30. So the two FR books retailed for … $600?

Something still doesn’t add up. Maybe he’s in one of those areas where it’s 13%? In which case the two books retailed for about $100. Better than $600 I suppose!

The USD MSRP is $110, so 15% of the CAD price being about $30 sounds possible

Don’t know about HT. But I recall I had to pay around 26 CAD. I am in BC which also adds a 7% Sales Tax on as well

  • Alberta
  • Northwest Territories
  • Nunavut
  • Yukon
Are the only areas that are GST only.

Well sales tax or VAT or whatever it’s called locally is a pretty standard thing around the world. You’re going to pay that wherever the item came from. 7% is actually pretty darn low—VAT is about 20% here in the UK. Books are exempt though.

It’s really not. Those curses, false burial chambers and tombs in hidden valleys weren’t intended as foresighted deterrents for modern archaeologists.
It is somewhat curious frok a lore nerd perspective as a 180 degree reversal of Muhorandi attitudes towards tomb raiding on prior iterations of the FR...but royal patronage for dungeon clearing is more conducive to actual gaming than "the government will come down on you like a ton of bricks for disturbing an a client evil Mummy Lord" was back in the day. Now I cam see taking the Museum campaign stuff from Forge of the Artificer and using it for a game in Muhorand. Making things conducive to gameplay comes over embalming ancient edition lore any day, in my book.
