Maybe all I know is there was surprise $30
But you haven't told us from who?

Did WotC charge you $30? Did a shipping company charge you $30? Did the Canadian government charge you $30? Did a passing dog in the street ask you for $30? Who did you pay $30 to and when? You said it was a 'surprise'? Was it before or after or during purchase?

Was it a sales tax or a tariff? You've said it was both now. Do you not know? And if so, why did you pay it? (And can I have $30 please?)
on top of what I payed to WotC, just for one of the books to be slightly damaged. Not bad enough to return, but still pissed about it.

Never physical books from these guys again.
WotC doesn't personally deliver your books, a local Canadian person in a van does.

It’s not really a review is it. More a list of observations. Things you would do differently due to personal preference.

I love realmslore. I love the details. But I do think that it’s important to remember these are all just sources. Some are going to conflict and some are going to be more significant than others. Expecting it all to line up perfectly and the emphasis to be exactly where we each like, or even where it was in previous editions isn’t feasible.

I also think right off the bat, saying something is insanely overpriced and you’re never buying that kind of product again is a pretty punchy statement. If you feel that strongly then maybe you aren’t the target audience. This stuff will filter down to the wikis eventually. If there is one thing to say about Forgotten Realms and price - you get access to all the lore, for free. It’s just takes a bit longer for the wikis to catch up. Maybe that has led to unreasonable expectations about how much things cost.

The Shades are rebuilding their capital city, although I wish they'd mentioned the Shadovar still have at least one or more cities, Gloomwrought, in the Shadowfell which was unaffected by the collapse of their empire on the Material Plane.

Gloomwrought is not a Shadovar city, tho. Some of them live there, but they didn't founded it. It's a city founded by people from other world of the multiverse.
