My son at a gameday

Recently I asked for some advice on getting my 8 year into a gameday. We played Saturday, he played a half-orc barbarian and I played cleric. He turned out to be a majorly important character, and he felled three runehounds, including two critical hits with a greatsword.

Toughness turned out to be a pretty good feat. He went down four times. I played a cleric who spent most of his time patching him up. It's a good combo.

Thank you for all your advice! Hopefully you'll see us at a Living Greyhawk event near you.

There is no greater D&D thrill than playing a first-level tank and taking out monsters with a single swing of your greatsword.

He managed two criticals while raging, one after another. It was a tremendous moment. I didn't know a first level character could do that much damage, WITHOUT power attack. With it the damage would have been sick.

This mod had a LOT of talking though. He found that hard to deal with. He wasn't impossible though and he did sit at the table better than I've seen some adults manage for two hours or more before combat.

did he scream when he raged? "aaaaaaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhhhhhhhh"
help him choose a battle cry!
you know your thread about your kid made me want to play barbarian :)

Terrific! I've seen many kids coming to the gaming table (and DMed for them). At ICon one 9 year old was so infectuously enthusiastic that he really added something to the game. Kids bring that true sense of wonder to the table. It's great to be part of it when that happens.

Youthful Gamer "Can it be a flaming sword?"

Me "Yes"

YG: "Coooool." (Friend with him gets awed look.)
