First post in quite some time...so hi everyone!
I just got back from a nine day vacation to Louisiana and Mobile, Alabama yesterday, which was almost cancelled due to Hurricane Ivan.
Low points
-My family was going to stay in Mobile to begin with to visit my step-sister and her family, but not being to able to find a hotel room any-freakin-where in Mobile and half way into southern Mississippi put a hamper on those plans. So we decided to go to Louisiana (Springfield in particular, which is near Hammond and Ponchatula) and swing back through Mobile on the return trip. We also nearly ran out of gas, since every gas station south of Montgomery and twenty miles into Mississippi was without power or gas. That was some drama I tell ya.
-Crossing the Mississippi line we was going to have a picnic, but a swarm of what I have only heard called "love bugs" getting into the car and food stopped that.
-Ivan coming back around... The person's house I was staying at is right on a canal, and the water was nearly coming over their dock. We was preparing to put their furniture on blocks, but that goodness it recided.
High Points
-Spending nearly a week fishing in Lousiana on a canal. It was most relaxing and serene. Caught plenty of catfish, a few brim, and a carp (first one ever for me
)
-Going to the French Quarter in New Orleans and into my first bar
. The Bourbon Street Blues Company is the name of the bar. Also got to gaze upon one of the most gorgeous women I've ever seen that was singing and dancing on stage that day (last Wed).
- Seeing my step-sister and my neice and nephew in Mobile, who stayed put for Ivan. I was glad to hear they was safe and secure.
