I thought I'd share my somewhat odd and seriously suboptimal character concept for the Eberron game I'm in (hi guys, see you Sunday). I play a warforged clericof the Silver Flame, who calls himself Tarnish. Strangely for a warforged, he seems to be highly empathetic and kind-hearted, as well as firmly devout to a religion. He embraces the protective and compassionate aspects of his faith and finds the tendency towards intolerance in his church to be unsettling. He's currently fifth level.

Interesting features of the character:

* His armor plating is gleaming silver in appearance (thanks to the Mithril Body feat; he keeps himself brightly polished most of the time).
* For some reason, he prefers to stay away from Thrane, which is of course the theocracy in which the Flame is rooted.
* His natural ability to sympathize with others makes him uncannily good at sensing people's hidden motives (thanks to the Truth domain).
* Thanks to his great Fort & Will saves, large pile of hit points, and warforged immunities (disease, paralysis, poison, ability drain, sleep effects, anything related to breathing, and it goes on), he's the most resilient character I've ever played.
* He speaks, reads, and writes fluent Celestial, which sometimes surprises people.
* He was once (highly inaccurately) called "Tarnish the Berserker" in a Sharn Inquisitor article.
* He owns and operates a free clinic in the Cogs, one of the slummier areas of Sharn, the City of Towers.
* At sixth level he's going to take Spontaneous Casting, which is frickin' awesome for clerics & druids. In addition he's got Action Surge. So, more action points than average & someday spontaneously casting any spell in his known spells list.

On the other hand, he's highly sub-optimal:

* 28 point-buy + wis penalty + cleric casting requirements = mediocre ability scores (except for wisdom and constitution, of course). Tarnish's biggest weakness is that he's got 10 Str, Dex, and Cha, and his wisdom is lower than average for PC clerics. He can't turn that well either (although we're using alternate turning rules so it works out pretty well).
* His healing magic is only half-effective on himself (artificer in the party so not as big of a deal usually).

So the character is largely 'wow that's a cool character' and not min/maxed at all. But I have to say I've had a great time playing him.

Any thoughts from the audience?
