Myers-Briggs and Gamers

I imagine gamers are probably as diverse as the population in general with regards to Myers-Briggs personality types. I myself tested as an ENFP back a few years ago and I've occassionally taken other tests that demonstrate the same. I'm most strongly an E and only a bit on the side of an N, but it seems like my personality type has a relatively high incidence among gamers. The dramatic gamers, those who like to steal the show, are often Es like myself. The ones who always seem to try new ideas rather than relying on conventional tactics are often Fs and/or Ps.

Perhaps, but based on the previous poll, we have a disproportionate number of certain types compared to the population in general.

I believe that the general population is about 25% I/75% E, 25% N/75% S, 50% T/50% F and 50% P/50% J.

INTJs (like myself) make up only 1.5625% of the general population, but about 15% of those who responded to the poll are INTJs.

In fact, almost half of the people who responded to the poll are INs, who are supposed to make up only 6.25% of the general population.

Perhaps the fact that this is an online forum biases it towards the Is, and the fact that it is a gaming forum biases it towards the Ns.

In fact, we are about 75% I/25% E and 75% N/25% S, reversing the proportions for the general population. For the others, we are about 60% T/40% F and 60% P/40% J, which is not too different from the general population.

Extrovert Intuitive Feeling Perceiving [eNFp] for me:

* very expressed extrovert (78%)

* slightly expressed intuitive personality (12%)

* moderately expressed feeling personality (38%)

* moderately expressed perceiving personality (56%)

This is based on the test I took here. :)

So, I was wondering how many people don't fit into what I would expect are the common gamer types.

I think the "common gamer type" is simply an extension of the typcial stereotype into M-B terms. In my experience, relatively few gamers actually fit the stereotype. So, I'd not expect all that many extra to fit the analogous M-B type.

Are there any folks here who consider themselves strong extroverts? More emotional than logical?

On these two, for example, my personal experience is at complete odds with the stereotype. I'd say roughly half the gamers I know are pretty good extroverts. Same for the Emotional vs Logical divide.

But then, I'm of the opinion that trying to fit the entire personality of a real person into a small number of boxes (be it 16 M-B boxes, or a dozen Astrological types, or nine alignments) is of limited utility.

Just an opinion? I wouldn't say. I'm certainly not objective, and I think you will have a huge margin of error without people here actually making the Myers & Briggs tests on personality. Many people I know have surprises while looking at the results. And there is a non-negligeable amount of "borderline" individuals, who are getting different results every time.

Got ISTP in the past, INTJ now :) :D
Well, the I is very strong at 100%, and the Thinking is consistent too and at 62%. Only 25% Intuitive (I/N) and Judging (1% !), so little wonder they flipped.
