Myers-Briggs and Gamers

Perhaps, but based on the previous poll, we have a disproportionate number of certain types compared to the population in general.

I believe that the general population is about 25% I/75% E, 25% N/75% S, 50% T/50% F and 50% P/50% J.

INTJs (like myself) make up only 1.5625% of the general population, but about 15% of those who responded to the poll are INTJs.

In fact, almost half of the people who responded to the poll are INs, who are supposed to make up only 6.25% of the general population.

Perhaps the fact that this is an online forum biases it towards the Is, and the fact that it is a gaming forum biases it towards the Ns.

In fact, we are about 75% I/25% E and 75% N/25% S, reversing the proportions for the general population. For the others, we are about 60% T/40% F and 60% P/40% J, which is not too different from the general population.

Heh. The INTJ and the ENTx (me) both remembered the stats, but the INTJ fact checked it, it would seem, while the ENTx felt comfortable posting half-remembered stats from a class a decade ago. That sounds about right.

There's also one bump upwards from the generally low stats for SP's and SJ's. That's for ISTP's.

That makes sense for two reasons:
- SP's are more likely than average to serve in the military, and a lot of people pick up gaming in the military. ISTP's tend to be into speed and hardware and not good at traditional education, so the best fighter pilots, tank drivers, snipers, etc. are likely to be ISTP's.
- IxTP people don't much care what other people think (Introvert, Thinking, and non-conformist). If they like something, they will do it, regardless of whether others think it's cool or not. An SJ is much more likely to worry about whether it's right (does it lead to Satanism?) and an ESPx is more likely to worry if the cool kids are doing it or not.

ISTP's are often my favorite "S" folks . . . it's interesting that historically, there's a lot of military pairings of ENTJ's and ISTP's who shared a mutual respect and let each other do their thing. The main example I'm thinking of is Eisenhower and Patton, but I believe there was a similar pair in the Civil War, probably Grant and Sherman. Big picture strategy of the Field Marshall personality type, combined small picture excellence and drive of the true warrior. :)
