Myrtle Beach

Gnome Berzerker

First Post
Hey, anybody ever been there?

I'll be going away for a weekend at Myrtle Beach, and I'd like to know if there's anything specific I should see or do (besides relax). :)

TIA!

I was there 2 weeks ago...due south of myrtle about 12 miles is huntington state park...it has a nice moorish style castle ...its pretty nice to see... of course visit the strip, and I would recommend seeing Ripley's aquarium. Lots of nice things to do...plus its cheap right now for everything there....I am actually planning on moving there.

Head a few miles north, to North Myrtle Beach, and dance the shag at the Pad, a bar my grandfather used to own.

Otherwise, Myrtle Beach has become somewhat of a golf haven, if that is your game.

20 miles north is holden beach, just over the border. holden beach is a small island with a drawbridge that crosses a salt marsh area with good shell hunting :)

I used to summer in Myrtal Beach.

It's a great place, though I don't know what all is open this time of year, and considering the weather.

Yeah, it pretty much has become the Golf Capitol of the World, both mini-golf and regular...

It gives me a laugh and an eye-opener when people who don't even live in South Carolina know more about Myrtle Beach than I do. :)

My favorite attractions are the Beach itself, especially in cool, overcast weather, where you can walk the surf for hours and not get burned.

I'll second the call to Ripley's museum, even if it is a bit small IMO.

Finally, if you get the urge to shop for your favorite hobby, there are about three good gaming stores there, all off of Hwy. 17 (Of course, EVERYTHING at the Beach is off of Hwy. 17 :)) One is Heroes Hangout, and I can't think of the name of the other two, only that they are close together, and they are off of Hwy. 17 to the south of Hwy. 501, which is where most people enter the beach.)

I second the Auqariam. Not to match the big city ones but it is nice. I plan on being up there in Oct, one weekend with my wife and daughter the other with my gaming group for a whole weekend of gaming. Got lots of prep work to do there. It booms a lot more during the fall and winter than it use to do. It use to be dead as a doornail but since so many people, particurly retirees, live there it is much nicer. My parents have a place there that I only use during the fall and winter since my brothers keep it tied up all summer (Which I wouldn't use it anyways. Too crowded and busy I like walks on the beach not fighting traffic)

There is a heck of a lot of shopping and outlet stores there. Lots of shows and such that aren't to bad if you are into that (obviously I'm not ;) )

later

PS go to Broadway at the beach. its where the Imax and Aquariam is as well as hardrock cafe as well as a nice place just to walk around and meander.

Ripley's Aquarium is an absolute must. It may be the only time you get to see weedy seadragons in an aquarium next to leafy seadragons.

I've never been to THIS Ripley's but I've been to others and it's definately worth the trip :)
