Mystic Theurge/Eldritch Knight/Spellsword

Is this class any good? I know it takes a few levels to get to the prereq's....does the character end up with decent or subpar spellcasting abilities?

For a fighter/mage type, is the EK or Spellsword better?

Shame they gurked the Bladesinger.

Duskblade does it better.

Otherwise, the eldritch knight is caster with a bit of melee, spellsword is melee with a bit of caster.

Eldritch knight is better with a dip into spellsword.

Duskblade is great for a fighter/mage with emphasis on fighter.
Fighter 1/Wizard 5-6/Spellsword 1/Eldritch Knight is great for a fighter/mage with emphasis on mage.

If you're trying to build a Ftr/Mage Mystic Theurge does absolutely no good for you.

It depends on the ratio of Ftr to Mage you prefer for your character. If you want more Ftr, Spellsword, if you want more Mage, EK. Personally, I don't think Spellsword is worth more than a dip.

To the duskblade fans: While the Duskblade is a powerful class at lower levels, it's hardly comparable to any build that nets +16 BAB and 9th lvl spells at higher levels.

Either way...just my 2 cp

Whoa there! A MT can make a devastating melee fighter. Wizard buffs + cleric buffs = one seriously buffed up character.

Ok, I obviously worded that wrong. If you are taking levels in Fighter and Wizard, Mystic Theurge does absolutely no good for you.

My post must be unclear....

I want to play either a MT OR a fighter/mage of some sort.

So are MT's any good?

Mostly no. They lose 3 levels of spellcasting using most standard construction techniques (some optional feats can work around this). To get caster level back up (for spell penetration) you need to blow 2 feats. That leaves you behind both the on highest level spells available and the number of feats that you have to develop your character.

Most of the time this trade-off just isn't worth it. It can be a decent option of you are starting at level 11+ or so when the massive number of spells kicks in and the painful levels of being highly suboptional (typcially levels 4 to 6 are awful) have past.
