Mystic Theurge with Druids?

Knowledge (religion) is not a class skill for druids, though it is for wizards, so it will be slightly harder to meet the Mystic Theurge's prerequisites. Otherwise no problems.

It's not out of line to change the prereqs for druids; I've had it done.

And there's a precident for it, with the requirements for Hierophant being tweaked so that it required Knowledge (Religeon) or Knowledge (Nature).

Or, you know, you could just buy the ranks of Knowledge (Religeon) with your wizard levels, when it is a class skill.

Well, given that the character in question can eventually cast 9th-level druid and wizard spells in hide armor at 20th level, I wouldn't tweak the Mystic Theurge prerequisites. A non-human character with 14 Intelligence will be able to meet the Knowledge (arcana) and Knowledge (religion) prerequisites over his three wizard levels, but will have no skill points to spare. I would consider it a small extra cost for this pretty good combo.

Wildshaping sucks compared to the Druid spells.
It's all about augmented summoning, and the mystic theurge just
gives you more stuff you can do to your summons.

Oh, is that a pack of wolves or it that a pack of invisible, hasted wolves?

Eh augmented summoning is good at the earlier levels, but at the later levels it doesn't make so much of a difference. Its better if you summon horde's of weaker creatures I guess, but I always opted to summon just the 1 stronger creature each cast... saves time in battles.

Thats one thing that a wizard/druid mystic theurge would be good at tho... summoning weaker creatures. You'll be 3 levels behind on all your spells, so you won't get dire wolves til lvl 8, brown bears til 10, etc. And if you want to do the multiple summons at once approach, its 1d3 dire wolves at 10... As opposed to the straight druid getting 1d4+1 at level 9. Even if you spend another turn hasting them (while the straight druid might be casting say... animal growth, or flamestrike), on average your summons still won't be quite as good.

Splat books aside (my group only plays with core books, so I'm not too knowledgeable about all the spells druids get in them) its been my observation that druids are more of a versatile caster. They get both good offensive and good defensive (healing, buffing) spells, but often slightly delayed compared to a cleric or a wizard. Which is exactly what a mystic theurge also does.

Given that your combining two spellcasters for a mystic theurge (wizard/cleric, wizard/druid, whatever) and are getting the versatility from that, from a pure min/max standpoint it makes more sense to get the two casters that overlap the least in abilities and get their powers the soonest. With a wizard/druid combo, alot of your spells you get as a druid you get earlier as a wizard... this is somewhat a waste.

However from thats just a min/max standpoint. So basically, just play whatever you find fun, and don't worry about the rest unless you think it will impact on your fun ;)

Taking levels in both Mystic Theurge and Arcane Hierophant might be an interesting idea. A Druid 3/Wizard 3/Mystic Theurge 4/Arcane Hierophant 10 has the spellcasting ability of a 17th-level druid and a 17th-level wizard, can wild shape as a 13th-level druid, and has a familiar companion that combines the abilities of an animal companion of a 13th-level druid and the familiar of a 13th-level wizard.

Edit: I'm wrong, I didn't remember correctly. The example specifically spells it out.

If I remember correctly, you only advance your wild shape ability in the Arcane Hierophant PrC if you already have the Wild Shape ability (i.e. you must be a fifth level druid).

Isn't the sample ArcHie a Drd4/Wiz3 with wildshape?
