isnt epic mystic theurge absoultely worthless then? Wouldnt it be better off to just alternatively progress in your original arcane/divine classes, gaining the benefits of those lvl ups?
I mean, whats the difference between

1) 5wiz/5cle/mystic theurge10/epic mystic theurge 10

and

2) 10wiz/10cle/mystictheurge10

???

You get bonus Epic feats from Epic Mystic Theurge.

I think and some friends of mine also that the MT is overpowered in giving 2 levels of spellcasting for 1 real level
Anyone who thinks the mystic theurge is overpowered hasn't played one. Being behind three levels of spellcasting ability is major.

I play a 3/3/8 mystic theurge -- a 14th level character -- and I only have sixth-level spells. For that matter, as a 15th-level character I will still only have 6th-level spells. While a straight wizard has moved past limited wish into eighth-level spells like prismatic wall, I'll still be casting disintegrate. While a straight cleric has moved past resurrection into eight-level spells like earthquake, I'll still be casting heal.

The schticks of the mystic theurge are "breadth" and "stamina," not "power." My PC nearly always has something he can do to help the group, but he'll never manage anything truly impressive for our level. The true currency of power in D&D is "number of actions," and no matter how many spells a mystic theurge has, he only gets one action per round. For that one action, his choices are much less powerful -- albeit much more numerous -- than a dedicated spellcaster.

I'm away from my Races of the Wild... leaving aside Requirements for the moment, does Arcane Heirophant advance "one divine spellcasting class", or is it more specific than that?

Geomancer allows some combination of arcane and divine power, I think. Also, Monte Cook designed a cool Hallowed Mage prestige class, though I don't remember now where it was published, and I suspect that it might not work as well for a 16th level character.

It says +1 level of existing divine spellcasting class.
However, you need the Trackless Step class feature to take the PrC.

Yup. In the Core/Complete books, that means a three-level dip into Druid, Scout, or Nightsong Infiltrator... which is a bit much for what we're after.

If one of the Races or Environment books has a PrC that gains Trackless Step at level 1, though, a 1-level dip might be worth it...

You could take another spellcasting class, like Psion, and do the Psion/Wiz or Psion/Cleric thing.

Should be qualified with four levels of Psion-- then you can alternate between Cerebremancer and Psychic Theurge, and get a couple different versions of dual spellcasting.

The epic Mystic Theurge does not offer simultaneous progression, instead you alternate between the classes.
Where is that from? According to the ELH, spellcasting progression continues at the same rate as before, ie 1 per level for both divine and arcane.
