Mystical Properties of Gems

A great source for mystical gemstone properties, effects, and folklore was the original Chivalry & Sorcery source book (70's)
Contained notes on various things such as star rubies (bonus to hit and damage), to sapphires (resistance bonus if I recall). Plus rules for using monster parts, dragon teeth, etc.
Not sure if the recent version (90's) has the same info or not.

Another suggestion is Treasures of Middle Earth by ICE. very nice, just will need to be scaled.

I've got a book on the symbolism of gemstones at home.

Won't help you, though, if you can't read French.

Personally, I use one of those great old Dover reprints: George Frederick Kunz's The Curious Lore of Precious Stones, which details all sort of magical properties not only by type of stone (in various cultures and times), but also about specific types of amulets and combinations.

A useful book for a variety of rpgs :)

I love Dover Books! :D

Ars Magica 4th Ed has a table of gemstones and other materials that lists bonuses they give to certain types of magic. For example, emeralds give a bonus to spells and effects that deal with inciting love or passion, or snakes and dragons. The book is available free at Atlas' website.
