Eh? Are you talking about the Mage's Spell spells? A lot of companies change the names (Inner Circle and Necromancer leap to mind) for their use.

Demiurge out.

No, I'm talking about people who bitch and moan because something like a spell name is IP, while the mechanics and basic description are OGC. If your imagination is that broken, maybe RPGs aint for you.

The problem is when you rename it, you lose your source. Now you have a spell with a name that doesn't match any books.

That's not crippled OGC. Crippled OGC refers to obscure declarations of OGC which make it hard or impossible for someone to determine what is OGC and what isn't.

I've never heard anyone complain about clearly marked IP, such as spell names and the like.

I have. You simply have the atrocious luck to deal primarily with people with brains and initiative

A truly short and pointed post Mythusmage. One I agree with!

Personally, I despise the term "crippled" for OGC. It implies that the creator of the content did something to wound it, for one. Everyone gets the use of portions of someone else's work, for free, for two. (Is it that hard to write a letter to a publisher asking for permission? Yeah, I know some don't answer, but most actually do!) And for three, it created such a loaded connotation that I think a few people (not Morrus) who complain about it on the Internet have actually scared publishers into increasing their closed content and/or not clarifying their declarations.
