Harn was so ahead of its time.

When I was first exposed to Harn I was about 16yrs old. I was running a Dragonlance campaign at the time and thought Harn was boring. Boy was I wrong. The fact is that it is a deep, deep world. My young mind thought flash meant quality. That FR and DL were actually better because the art was better and the presentation was slicker. They weren't/aren't.

They aren't bad worlds but compared to Harn they are utterly undeveloped...not in regards to encounter locations (at least in regards to the voluminous FR) but in regards to believability. Wow, actual economics in a fantasy world. I don't have any interest in the Harn mechanics, but any low magic mechanics can be added.

There is much to like about Harn and as a world-creator N. Robin Crossby should have been very proud of it. Just as proven every week by WWE wrestling, greatest popularity doesn't equate with greatest quality.

I have never understood why the material, not the system, but the material, hasn't always been one of the hottest selling properties in the RPG world. Simply awesome stuff.

I can only presume the level of detail and subject matter is simply material most DM's are not interested in.

I'm am just glad to know Mr. Bell and many others will carry Harn forward. Those of us who know and appreciate how awesome the Harn material is are fortunate to have such capable bearers of the proverbial torch.

Sad news!

I ran a couple of great campaigns set in Harn (one using Runequest and one using 3e). It was also the campaign setting my wife used when she first ran a game. The original Harn island map is still a thing of great beauty.
