Name My Child

Well my fiancee is pregnant. This is both good and bad news, for reasons I will not go into here. We do have a dilema though. We are both deadset on names, different names.

I wish to name hime Alexander Xavier, She wants to name him Ryan James.

We have decided to allow the fine folks here at enworld, a place we both frequent, to help name our child. Your suggestions are welcome.

Well, a compromise is usually not the best way unless both of you actually like the name better than the ones you have chosen. See, a compromise on a matter like this where you end up combining names means that both of you do not like the name. Better to be the bigger person and one of you decide that this child (perhaps the first of several who could later have some other name) have the name the other wants. It's a compromise where at least one of you is satisfied. Also, I can tell you that once that child is born it doesn't matter what you call it, you'll both love it anyway and the name will seem a silly thing to have bothered over. Barring that, I suggest again not to combine names, save those for later, but rather both of you find a new couple of names you actually want. And what if it is a girl? It happens, I was supposed to have two nieces but sometimes the child doesn't cooperate in Sonogram so a boy name had to be thought up very quickly. I'm very lucky. My wife and I have only one child so far and about 5 more names we like...
