Name That Arcanoloth!

Carnifex

First Post
Hi all, just wondering if I could tap into your collective brains to help me name an up-and-coming NPC in my campaign. He's an arcanoloth whom the players are going to end up freeing from, his current confinement - a small vase which he is trapped inside as a spirit, since the beings who made the vase then used him as a kind of portable encyclopedia. "Hey, 'loth, tell us what the name of the sage who wrote the Azercorium is," kinda thing. Anyway, at first the PC's shouldn't realise that they've released a fiend, and in fact he'll give them a reward for freeing him from his confinement (though it's actually Gehennan Spice - http://www.ps3e.com/equip.cfm?id=23&ctog=1&equiptog=1 - which isn't such a gift when you realise that it's quite addictive :P. Later on though he'll start pooping up around the place, both helping them (for a price) or hindering them ("Oops, did I just lean on the support that holds up the mine entrance? Oh, sorry 'bout that.").

I need a good name for him, but for the life of me I can't think of a decent one. I was thinking of one that, if translated, means something like 'cunning bastard' or 'treacherous git' in some real-world language :) One in egyptian would be best, sicne that's the kind of theme he has in the clothes he wears. Can anyone lend me a hand?

I suggest: Sutekh (sue-TECH).
(The true name of the primary evil Egyptian god... according to Dr. Who in "Pyramids of Mars")

How about Rubric, it makes a nice name and has multiple meanings relating to rules and statutes as well as words (though it does suggest a lawful tendency)

Heya, blood - drop me an email. I've got a whole family of 'loths - the 'Crucius', that plagued my PC's - Crowelian'Crucius, a.k.a. Crowely, Worelian'Crucius, a.k.a. Worley, etc... My PC's HATED 'em.... :)

Sutekh and Rubric are both pretty good ones, and may well be used - thanks guys!

Ashy - if you want, email me with more details at chris_f_Allen@hotmail.com or just drop an email on the pw members list or something. One thing about this guy though is that a) he was the servant of Hashrukk the Daemonflesh, who is IMC an Elder God and ruler of many yugoloths, but turned stag, and b) he's been pretty much out of events for over a thousand years. Because of that he's pretty much going to be on his own, without the support of a 'family' of yugoloths and suchlike, and will instead be manipulating the mortals of the world from behind the scenes - working against all the other power groups secretly.

Nifilyapa means 'bad luck' in Romany, which is the language Gypsies speak. Since the name Gypsy comes from the word Egypt, it's sort of close.:)

And indeed, the infamous Rubric's Cube is the incarnation of evil, for those who have struggled with it.

Some great ideas here guys!

I might go with Khetiu'Mit'em'uhem just so he can say 'My name is unpronounceable by you mere mortals.' :)
