D&D 5E Naming your weapon

I'm all about naming weapons. In fact its why I enjoy 13th age so much is because you can pick whatever weapon you want, and it sort of defines your character even though it doesn't even really matter what you choose. Very cool roleplaying stuff. I really enjoyed 4th edition because you could give character boosts instead of magical weapons which helped with that feel. I really like weapon grows vs finding a lot of loot. Infact I might throw in a weapon level system, allowing weapons to get up to +5 instead of 5e's standard +3 just for keeping that weapon for all 20 levels (every 4th level it gains a +1), so at level 2 it would be a +1 weapon, 5 +2, 10 +3, 15+4 and 20+5. Yeah... I might just do that for incentive purposes... hmm. Kind of wish I had some magic item creation guidelines to check out some other stuff but eh. In lieu of +1's I might keep track of what item kills what monster and give it bonuses against specific types, or perhaps if it catches on fire in some cool way have it be fire enchanted or other stuff like that.

I like calling my weapons by whatever important charcter it slew or many foes it slew. Examples are maul named "Bonemeal" because that adventure had A LOT of dead skellies and the other is a longsword "Shelob's Bane" for killing, well, Shelob

Which explains why so many low-level characters name their swords "Rat's Bane".
