Nasty Critters of the Sea...

Djeta Thernadier

First Post
Hello all,

I'm at work so I can't go into too much detail (i'm asking for a friend), but if you were in need of a monster that dwelled under the sea for your game, what would you use and why?

Thanks!

Djeta T :)

Why, sahuagin of course!

Sahuagin are great. See the look of fear on your players face when you attack them with a swarm led by a four-armed mutant! "He's wielding how many tridents?!" :D

Why it depends upon their level, of course!

I'm sure Aeolius will be along any moment, with a complete list!...

I'm not sure what the level would be because she's actually looking for a monster for a story she's writing. I figured I'd ask for her here since you guys are the best at quick , excellent monster ideas :)

If it's a story, then what nicht does it need to fill? Is she looking for something vaguely humaniod, that stalks people underwater like the Creature from the Black Lagoon? Or is she looking for something larger and more hidious like the squid that attacked Nemo? Or is she wanted something world threatening like the Kraken of Greek legend?

She wants something non humanoid. But the comment about what level the characters are prompted me to ask her what sort of person (or other) the monster would be up against, since it doesn't seem feasible (at least to me) that one guy, even an accomplished fighter, could take down a Kracken.

I just asked her and her response was :

"I'd say something of mythic proportion but not inconceivable in terms of one man fighting it and being able to defeat it. Not a stalker. I kind of want a snakelike creature with a human head"

Water naga, perhaps?

Thanks so much guys!

Any reptile, abberation (with tentacles), Humanoid and even vermin can be made Aquatic and fit without problem - I have Sea Scorpions, Aquatic Carrion Crawlers, Aquatic Otyugh (including one that is Half-Feind and an NPC), gargantuan crocodiles (leviathan) as well as the full range of giant fish, sharks, sea serpents, squid etc

Wow! delayed Double post!

And as to the suggestion below about Mermen with eel-tails Great Idea IMC I have a minor god with such a description and was thinking of developing a race from him...
