NC Game Day XVII: October 4th 2008

Incidentally, I just added a game to the schedule:

Culper Ring: The Battle of New Orleans

"We fired our guns, and the British kept a comin'..."
--Johnny Horton, The Battle of New Orleans

January, 1814. The hated red coats once more advance against American territory, this time menacing New Olreans. Brave American colonel Andrew Jackson has managed to defend the city for weeks, but now the British have brought strange new resources to bear against its heroic defenders. Can the Culper Ring, the young American Republic's greatest heroes, stop the British before New Orleans is crushed beneath the Imperial heel?

8 Slots available. 4 pre-reg, 4 open.

I don't *think* I'm going to be running anything at the autumn DC gameday, so if you want a spot, grab it now!

I've submitted two games, a new Dread game in the morning, and Monsters and Other Childish Things in the afternoon.

MIA (Dread)

In Miami during the summer of '83, pulling an unidentified corpse from a gator-infested lake near the airport isn't that unusual. But the rest of the crap dragged from the muck, well, that's something you weren't expecting. So what started off as a routine drug murder just got a whole lot more interesting, and between the psychopathic drug kingpins and the corrupt cops, 'interesting' is the last thing you need.

(Yes, I'm being a little cagey about this one. Trust me!)

The Autumn Frolic (Monsters and Other Childish Things)

The halcyon days of summer are past. Calloused feet are crammed back into uncomfortable shoes. Faces are freshly scrubbed in the morning. Worst of all, school uniforms are laid out at night, taunting you through the wee hours with their promises of "sitting up straight" and "paying attention" and "not throwing boogers at Susie Dormond". September is the worst time of year.

But all is not lost. Having made it through the beginning of another school year at Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow Elementary School, the reward is sweet. The annual Autumn Frolic, organized by the high school kids across the way, is the fifth bestest* thing of the year.

Tasty foods that aren't the least bit good for you. Scary rides. Prizes to be won. And most wonderful of all, escape from the oversight of the blasted penguins, if only for a day.

But this Autumn Frolic promises to be a little different, for new friends were made over the long summer vacation.

I have two games scheduled.

Morning - FLASHPOINT (Spycraft 2.0)

In this game, inspired by the action TV series 24 as well as the occult espionage thrillers of Charles Stross, the players are a special task force set up to respond quickly to imminent threats. In the midst of the latest investigation, the players discover that they are facing a most unusual, and dangerous, adversary.

Afternoon - Rocket Corps: Lost on Jupiter (FATE/Spirit of the Century/Iron Lords of Jupiter

This is an adaptation of the FATE system as it appears in the Spirit of the Century game (for more info, see my review here) to run the Iron Lords of Jupiter mini-setting that originally appeared in the pages of Dungeon/Polyhedron.

In a universe much like our own, but not quite the same, the crew of a Army Space Corps rocket ship travels to Jupiter to investigate a Nazi spaceship sighting. When the ship is over the great red spot, a bizarre phenomena tosses half of the crew onto the previously unknown surface of Jupiter. If they are to survive and find a way back to their home, the crew must learn to survive in this strange world, an ally with natives of the world against the mighty Iron Lords of Jupiter.

my only DO WANT this year....

Was a hope to scratch my Chronicles of Carlina itch. But then if i get that chance, Belen gets very limited time for play.

Rel-

You'll have to give Samantha the Red my apologies. My wife is (again) heading out of town and won't be back in Raleigh until late morning on Game Day so I've had to back out of Game in a Jar, sadly.
