[Necromancer Games] Announcing 'Tome of Horrors II'!

Consider this constructive criticism. I like TOH quite a bit and it does get used in my games. One thing I do feel it is lacking in is descriptive text for most of the monsters. Perhapse in TOH II you might want to make a point of describing the monsters to a greater degree.

The production of a sequel was all but inevitable, given the rampaging success of the first ToH. So I'm not surprised at all. I'm delighted just the same, however :D Chalk up another sale (assuming quality and production values equal or exceed the first).

Just two requests:
#1: More updated creatures from the days of yore, please! It's good to see new stuff, but I'd prefer a mix of new and old.

#2: Good binding. Very important. :)

Cheers!

Rampaging success? Given Colon's quote of "I think the only people who could really answer this is Clark Peterson and Bill Webb. Both have been very clear that the reason they do what they do is because it's fun, not because they make their living from it. " how do we know it's such a success?

I personally agree that it seems to be a big one but I think, and this is just pure speculation, that a good chunk of that was because it was updating monsters, not because it was a huge monster book.

Don't get me wrong, being 100% OGC will help it out but the competition this time around is more intense.

I agree very strongly with the idea of Return to the Tome of Horros being vastly superior to Tome of Horror 2. So much so that I truly believe not continuing with that naming trend would result in a drop in revenue. i could easily be wrong, but that's how I feel.

I also agree with the earlier comment on strengthening the written descriptions of what these things are and do. Admittedly it wasn't much of problem for me, and there are those great pictures right there on the same page, but i did notice they were a tad, uh, not as effective as they could be.

And, really, why not hae some older converted monsters in there. It's not like your conversions are ever quite the same as their conversions. I like yours better. Maybe not as high a percentage as the last book but at least a few. As a fan service if nothing else.

p.s. I could have sworn someone already did a seemingly nice and proffesional conversion of most of the spelljammer bestiary somewhere out there on the net. I am wrong about that?

Well, Joe, I just wanted to use the words "rampaging success" in a post. I have no facts or figures. I assume the product has sold quite well, however, given the amount of word-of-mouth and general enthusiasm for it on the boards here. What do I know? Clark and Bill don't share their sales sheets with me :)

Cheers!

If it had an emphasis on gargoyles, stone golems, and earth elementals, we could call it the Rocky Horrors...

The best would be to find another module name that could be slightly transformed, but I don't see which one could fit.

Here is an idea.

I'd like an index which has all the published monsters in it (not their stats just name CR and what type they are. Maybe in a couple of formats.

So say I wanted an orc lair. Besides orcs, what other low level masters might fit in. Oh here's one in the MMII and here's one in the ______ Manuel. You might even be allowed to use other company's monsters in the list (even if they weren't OGL) because you could claim you are advertising for them. (which you would be)

The appendices in the back of the Penumbra Fantasy Bestiary are seriously cool. I would like to see something very similar in the next Tome of Horrors. Otherwise I have to do the work myself - I remember flipping through the Tome of Horrors and cataloging all the plant creatures. There should be an index in the back that lists all the plant creatures for me!

There will be a listing of all monsters by Type and Subtype in Tome2. I havent seen the Penumbra book, so I cant say if ours will be similar or whatever, but there will be a listing by Type and Subtype. So, no more work for you or other DMs compiling it. :)

Plus summon tables? Please?

(BTW, if you want to reprint also the one I compiled for ToH1, it would be my pleasure.)
