Sorry, the populace at large, not isolated self interested groups, determines correct terminology. It may be correct within those interest groups, but outside of those groups, such jargon becomes meaningless and useless.

I tried using the term "crackers" for a while. People thought I was using a slur for white southerners. Few people undestood the term to mean "criminal hackers".
ditto. a cracker is a slur in my book.

or something you eat.

mang,

i've bought stuff online from those guys. i guess i'll have to go back and see just how secure i have my information. :uhoh:

I have no way of knowing if I still have a WW account. It has been years since I ordered a book from their site and I am not sure I created an account for that purpose. Wonder how I can find out.

(sigh)

We have no intention of paying this money

Sounds like all you have to do is to wait a couple of weeks. :D

Fortunately, I don't even have the e-mail account I used anymore, and I change passwords regularly, and haven't bought anything from the White Wolf store Proper in a couple of years. However, if they mean DrivethruRPG, a LOT of us may need to worry.

I just went to the DrivethruRPG site and everything seems fine there. White Wolf, Necromancer Games, and Judges Guild are all showing the same "we've been hacked" message.

I just ordered World of Darkness: Chicago and another book as a Christmas gift for a friend. Now I'm wondering if this is going to affect my shipping...

I want my Chicago... :(

As a computer security professional and someone who in the past identified himself as a hacker, I can assure you that hacker is the correct term. If you are not a criminal and you do hackery things you are a computer security professional. This is simply because anyone even romotely worth their salt when it comes to computer security can get paid at leat 25 an hour with the right connections.

Who extorts money from a company that really doesn't have that much? This leads me to think that the perps are some of those gamers that think WotC is wildly profitable and WW has money coming out their ears. Havent they heard the industry's favorite joke:
"How do you make a small fortune in gaming?"
"Start with a large one."

Yeah, this all bites. I'm registered on judgesguild.com and necromancer, but only for the forums and such. I haven't purchased anything there or from White Wolf directly. Thankfully I used some bizarre login and password that I have to double-check every time to get into Necromancer.

the White Wolf warehouse is less than a mile from my house as the crow flies.

literally across 78.

Angelsboi used to go dumpster diving around the back of it for the stuff they threw out.
