The sad thing is this sort of thing will only get worse as more and more companies outsource to China, India, and Russia all of their IT work. Because for programmers to work on a system in India, they need access to all of the data in India - so then all of your personal information you trust with some company is in the hands of multiple foreign subcontracters, any one of which is a potential leak to the criminal community and all of which are outside the reach of US law. But hey, they saved a little money this quarter by doing this, even though it will ultimate cost the company lots of money in the long run and screw over the consumer... wall street loves it.
