I just got two of those. Is it worth reporting to WW? And if so, where should we send the report to?

They're aware that such e-mails are being sent out, and that multiple people are receiving them. I think sending them anything more about it--unless the situation changes--would be redundant.

I'm sure they'd appreciate the thought, though. :)

Since it is a Yahoo email addy, I would report it to Yahoo, plus send it to the FBI. It would be a federal crime and they would be the ones to go after the . . . bad people. I can't call these so-called hackers the proper name, Eric's grandma would not approve. I think I'll go scrub my brain with a bar of soap (I didn't say it, so I'm not going to bite on a bar of soap).

I just got this email in my inbox:

After the server white-wolf.com has been hacked admins have refused \"to thank\" us.
We suggest you to buy database white-wolf.com all for 10 $.
In base of 65000 accounts with mails, icq, msn, personal data of users.
Mail for details whtwlfx@yahoo.com
I got it also. This stuff just ticks me off.

I got it too. I figured they were trying to be all scary and stuff. 'oooooooo we got your email. We KNOW WHO YOU ARE!'.

If I wasn't using a web based email account and numerous protective measures I'm sure I'd.... well no, I don't think scum like this could ever scare me.

Which precise accounts do these refer to? Would having an account at the White Wolf online store count?

Yup, that would count..

That's all I've ever done...bought some Scarred Lands books during the Christmas sale last year.

Hopefully White Wolf wasn't foolish enough to store credit card data on the server.

I did receive the warning from White Wolf, as well as the two e-mails from the hackers.

Oddly, I didn’t receive anything from WW, but did get the two e-mails from the hackers? I posted once or twice on the forums, but never bought anything from the online store, so maybe that has something to do with it.

I’d feel less anxious if I could even remember what all information I had under my WW account, or even which password I was using back then. Fortunately, being a grad student, I have nothing for anyone to steal anyway.

I doubt that the FBI (or anyone else) will ever figure out who The Guys Behind It All are, though. I can’t imagine that solving “The Great White Wolf Caper” is a big priority on the international crime scene.

Of course, whoever did this should be warned that they’re probably going to lose a point of Humanity.

Did yours apparently be sent from yourself, that is, your own email address to that same address? Mine were, but there's no way they actually got into my email account, since the password I use for that is different from any other password I use elsewhere.

It's very easy to make an e-mail appear to come from the recipient's own account. Spammers do it all the time.
