Thanks for the responses from the guys at Necromancer. I'll keep my eye out for previews.

I'm pretty happy with the spells-heavy slant. Sounds like a lot of the other stuff was already written, so maybe we will see it as web enhancements or even in another product.

Not at all. These points in the product description interested me enough that I had planned to buy the book.

Guidelines are provided for creating campaign-specific arcane or divine prestige classes.

Supplies new magic items, relics, and artifacts for characters to seek out or for DMs to build adventures around.

Supplies new magic items and artifacts that can be used as a source for a DM to construct an entire campaign.

I mean, more spells is nice and all but the above three points were what I was most interested in.

EDIT: Please note that I am still interested in the book. It's just that if it's all spells then it moves from the "buy on release!" list to my "look at when I'm in the store" list.

Well, it is pretty much just spells, sorry.

In response to something I saw somewhere else, main authors are myself, Scott Greene, and David Mannes. Contributing authors include a large number of people from our boards.

As far as balance, well, we did our best. Part of "balance" is also going to include what type of campaign setting you are using, the type of campaign you are running, feats and PrCs you are allowing, etc. If most of your monsters are big brutes with low Will saves then a simple Charm Monster could be considered unbalancing. Spells from ANY source should always be approved by the DM of a particular campaign.

Some other material intended for this book was written. Some of that is probably going to be used elsewhere. Don't know when or where. Our production schedule appears to be full through at least the next year. When we heard about DMG 2 I was under the impression it was providing "official" guidelines for PrC creation as well as more artifacts and artifact creation guidelines. I don't have the book yet, but it sounds like it doesn't really have that information

I sort of agree. I'll still buy it as soon as a spot clears in my budget, but it might ratchet it a notch or two down on my priority list.

Campaign centric artifacts and relics was really where, IMO, it was living up to its namesake.

Any sightings yet? Supposed to be released today.

I broke my rule of never pre-ordering from Amazon, because the wife wanted something and needed me to add to her order to get the free shipping. Normally I avoid pre-ordering because it seems to take longer than just waiting until the book is out and then ordering.

Hmm...

Wouldn't it be really cool if someone was in the process of designing an artifact-specific book for a major D20 company?

(No, I can't give more details. We're in the early stages. But don't give up hope.) :)

And don't dismiss Eldritch Sorcery because it's "just" spells. Everything I've heard about it is pretty cool.
