Necromancers from Goodman Games

Goodman Games

I noticed that Goodman Games is bringing out a book with the Necromancer class in it... I hope it's innovative and good. I wonder who's be writing it?

also on another note it seems that the Eladrin book has been pushed back. I wonder why? Oh well, gives me more time to write my own without outside influences.

The spiritsworn is an armored knight who fights on behalf of those who are no longer among the living. His relationship to the souls of the departed allows him to draw upon the spirits to aid his cause.

This reminds me of a series of books from like 10- 15 years ago. Necroscope. It was a British writer (Brian Lumley) wrote about a man who could ‘see dead people’ before the movie. The main character Harry Keogh was the friend and champion of the dead, but when push came to shove they helped him too. He trained to fight with the best fighters who ever lived, and learned math and science from geniuses who had past. He also sometimes called out and the dead moved to help him…It was cool, and I hope this turns out as cool.

And this reminds that the Necroscope books were the worst piece of crap I've ever read.

Sorry about the language, but I've been really disgusted by these books. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

According to their webpage:

Tavis Allison, Eytan Bernstein, Brian Cortijo, Greg Tito

You know, I read those when I was in high school and for some reason I really loved them.

Went back and re-read them a few years ago...and yeah, they really seemed like crap. Didn't hold up well over time at all.

Interesting concept though!

Agreed. The idea certainly has a lot of potential. If I hadn't been interested in the setup I wouldn't have picked up the books.

Well, actually, they'd also been recommended to me, which served as a useful lesson for me: Just because someone has similar interests doesn't mean he's got a similar taste...

Anyway, I didn't want to derail the thread so:
This definitely sounds interesting. Since it's a separate (and new) power source it won't step on any toes for official classes to come. The short intro doesn't mention it, but I guess there's one class for each role:

- Assassin: striker
- Deathwarden: defender (or leader?)
- Necromancer: controller
- Spiritsworn: leader (or defender?)

What do you think?

Yeah, I'd bet those roles are pretty accurate.

Also, its interesting to see them must go with a totally new power source to avoid confusion down the road. Although I'm sure we'll get some kind of Assassin from WotC eventually.

I'm glad that Goodman is sticking to the name Assassin, and not coming up with some silly variant.

DEATHKILLER Assassin or NAUGHTYBAD Assassin.

I was going to ask if you were jokeing, being today, then I thought, I was in middle school when I read them (I was already way into D&D) and I loved them. Now I have not gone back and reread them, and I do remember thinking a few times they were a little more ‘adult’ for me…so maybe it was a childish thing, but I remember them with rose tinted glasses.

Although, now looking back I was also at that stage of my life ‘borrowing’ my brothers anime collection with a certain type of tentacles in it, and I can’t help but think I couldn’t sit through one of those now.
