Necromancer's Legacy 2: Q&A

So, I suppose this'll be coming out in print sometime after its PDF appearance, yesss? I'm not a PDF fan, but good gravy how I love those necromany books!

There are no guarantees about our products coming out in print, but we are offering Print on Demand copies (which are great- cheaper than an actual print book, but still colour cover, perfect bound... you get the book mailed to you, and while you wait you get a copy of the pdf to keep you company until the book arrives) on all future E.N. Publishing products.

I actually forgot to mention something. I have two questions for those of you that read this little thread of mine :)

1: Have any of you out there got Necromancers Legacy and what did you think of it? Anything in special you would expect from a follow-up?

BTW, for those of you who don't have it yet, Gar'Udok, aka Necromancer's Legacy PDF version, is on sale until Tuesday night at RPGNow as part of E.N.Publishing's grand opening sale. Granted, the print version has more material in it, but at least you can get an idea of what we're talking about here better with regards to the back story...

Ohh, I actually noticed that Librum Equitis was on sale for five bucks as well. PrC's for every purpose :)

I will soon be posting some additional stuff on the Steam Grafts, making updates according to the good feedback I got so far. Yet, the Lightning Grafts will probably have to be retained for the book (need something not seen before in it after all).

Kit: I really love the Void Template, havent found much wrong about it :)
Just one thing I was wondering, when the Void Claimed animates the dead around it, are they under the control of the creature or free willed? And it simply says they animate as per the Animate Dead spell, but it doesn't mention as what kind of undead (skeleton or zombie). Since flesh-covered corpses can be animated as skeletons too, you might want to mention it quickly. Since it sounds as an automatic ability, it might not be possible for the Void Claimed to change its properties.

A good idea might allow the amount drained with Energy Drain to vary if the creature increases in size or HD. Could be, for example:
1 level if the creature has 1-10 HD, 2 levels if it has 11-20 HD etc.

As it decreases in movement, it might be suitable to rule that it looses some dexterity instead of gaining some. Could always increase strength.
The Void Claimed Gyrosphinx is kewl, really good example of a creature that would rock with the Template on.

Hmm ok, I haven't thought about it well enough obviously on the animate dead bit. How about this, use anothe chart (I can hear the groaning ;) Based on HD, creates an undead of various sorts, starts with skeletons, zombies, ghouls, boneless, boneless + skeletons, and it oculd go further.

Not sure if it should have a dex penalty but I agree that taking out the dex bonus makes sense if nothing else.

And is varying the energy drain a good idea? I mean, well, encountering one at 20+hit dice would really suck even for epic level characters.

Since one with 20+ HD would have CR that would demand the attention of an epic level group to defeat, it should be allowed to suck for Epic characters :)

Wouldn't be bad if you made an additional chart, I think it would clarify things :)

I think simply making the dex modifier zero would even things out. I normally think that movement modifiers and dexterity modifiers should go relatively hand in hand.

While I normally agree with the dexterity modifier thing I'm always unsure if it should apply to creatures that just float.

Want the new version posted here once it's worked up? (Probably tomorrow along with yet ANOTHER template purely for undead creatures, and this one is much more evil than the fungal)

Also had an idea for an eeeeevil sort of weapon. Boring, as in it bores into people. Usually used on piercing weapons, you hit someone with an arrow and the arrow not only won't pull out but keeps going every round. (These are probably far too abusable though)

On a side note, finally got Necromancer's Legacy (local game shop had a 50% sale on most of their RPG stuff, so total bonus here. Picked up that and some wraith stuff, undead day 2003 ;) Only skimmed most of it (the spells got a bit more indepth read) good stuff.

Why does necromancy always have to be evil?

Is there any possibility that the book could cover some neutral or good aspects of necromancy? eh...

Guacamole: I have done some thinking into the subject of spirits. I am going to introduce spirits as something other than simply ghosts. The spiritists PrC can call upon spirits for council and assistance. Even though spirits are technically undead, the whole aspect is actually more good than evil (thinking in the lines of the way the ancient indians worshipped undead)
Some of the stuff for the Flesh & Steel chapter is stuff that was originally intended for "working" undead, that is zombies and skeletons being used for cheap labour instead of as evil soldiers, can be considered neutral
