Need a 3e monster, QUICK!

I'm converting a HackMaster module I wrote as a favor for a friend. Change the stat blocks and a some of the flavor text, and I'm done. Trouble is, I don't have a ready substitute for my Tree Trolls.

Here's the deal. Two trolls are lurking about town waiting to intercept the party to ask for their help! Nevermind. The problem I'm having is I need a semi-intelligent, lingual, tribal, semi-arboreal forest monster for the party to gain information from. And the conversion needs to be done by this weekend. Any suggestions?

Beastman was my first thought, but I don't think they exist in 3e.

Maybe a cowardly Goblin, who give info at the exchange of his life?

Pick a monster with the stats you want, file off the serial numbers, and call them "tree trolls". Your players will never know.

Have kech been converted to d20 from earlier AD&D sources?They were nasty buggers for sure, and fit the description of what you're looking for.

Agree. As examples: Take a treant (for the magic flavor), a troll (for the brachial way) or a grey render (for the veeeery brachial way), adjust intelligence and give it a nice styling change as you need it...voila.

Grippli (the little tree-frog guys)
Boggle (those little rubbery dimension-dooring guys)
Dakons (the intelligent gorilla-guys)


As BOZ says, checking the creature catalog at http://www.enworld.org/cc/index.php may help you. It's a bunch of well-done creature conversions that remain true to the original creatures - and I believe all the creatures I mentioned are converted in the site. (except Boggles - I saw Boggarts, but not boggles.)

IIRC, boggles were once in there, but they were removed when they were printed in the new MM2.

and I don't , b/c they're on page 175 of the Tome of Horrors (check the creature catalog too)
