I'm getting ready to put together another pdf for my game but I need some people to tell me if there are places that I can make things make more sense. Where do I need examples, clarifications, diagrams, artwork, etc? Any help would be wonderful.

I'm still working on some of the tech level equipment lists so I already know that part.

Don't know the system at all, so not qualified to point to particular bits. Can tell you've done a great job of putting it together. Navigates real well.

You've probably already run through MT, RT, Deathwatch. They're my Classic Traveller go2s for filling gaps.

Hopefully some constructive criticism.

How about:
 • a step-by-step example of character creation with a sample character fully fleshed out
 • an example of combat (round by round)
 • an itemized list or document detailing the differences between this and basic D20 in specifics (not just general statements like "tweaked x to speed up combat", etc.)
I've read over the Character Creation Summery* and I'm still confused about how to make a character. It assumes that the player understands level adjustments and the reasons for them, and already understands the differences between your system and regular D20. I also see that you have different Defenses, though they are still passive (like regular D20), but I'm not sure I completely understand what they are and when they are used. That's where an example of combat would come in very handy.

I'd also suggest having someone edit it for spelling and syntax. I've noticed that even in things I've written and edited myself, I need somebeody else to edit it or a lot of spelling and syntax errors get missed.

:)

(*sp* - Summary)

I changed/added this paragraph to the Enhancements section: Enhancements
The first thing to understand in Nexus is Enhancements. Enhancements are used to balance characters of one type with another. A character can be all skill and have no enhancements or special abilities. These are called your class levels. However part of the fun of playing a role playing game is all the special powers. So you trade some of your starting levels for some of these powers. How many levels that you have to trade for a power or an ability is called it's Level Adjustment.
You can spend up to about half your starting levels in Level Adjustments. These can be spent on your Race, Magic Powers, or even Magic Items. Each enhancement that costs a Level Adjustment will have a number of levels that it costs to take that enhancement. It may cost +3 LA to be a dwarf. If you are playing a Street level game then your total number of character levels is only 5 and you can only have up to 3 in Level Adjustments. That means for a Street level game your dwarf can't add any more enhancements. The rest goes to your Class Levels which would be level 2 in this case. So you create a Class level 2 character and add the enhancements from the Dwarf Racial template. This gives you a 5th level character for the game.
Say your GM said he was starting a Heroic level game. This gives you a 10th level character to start with. You can have up to 5 levels of Enhancements for your character. The rest will go to your Class Levels. If you decide that you don't want any Enhancements then you don't have to have any or any amount up to your limit. You could take the dwarf package for +3 and nothing else. That would give you 7 Class Levels which is fairly skilled. You could take 1 Level Adjustment in Race, 1 in Magic, 1 in Agent, 1 in Wealth, and Possessions and still have your 5 Class Levels. It is up to you.

Does this make sense?

Okay I'm working on a character creation example.

I think that one thing that would help is if I could come up with another term instead of Class since it is actually a classless system. I need a term to reflect training and experience. I've been looking at synonyms but I can't find any good ones. Any ideas?

I didn't see Humans listed. Is this the assumption: if you haven't taken another race and paid the LA for it, you're Human - and then just build your character according to the rules without the "extras" a race would provide you?

Edit: P.S. If you take a level adjustment to be a race, is your characters level now whatever the base starting level is (1,5,10,etc) minus the LA, or is your character level still what the GM decided to start at (1,5,10,etc.)?

If your overall level is reduced by your Level Adjustment, doesn't that nerf players that want to play a race when it comes to using skills (as part of the formula for using a skill is 1/2 level)?

okay I added that human was the default race.

Total Starting level = Enhancement levels (Max half your starting level) + Class Levels

I still need a different name for "Class Level"

Yes that is the trade off for taking enhancements. You have special abilities but less skills and feats. It is kind of like having a point based system where you spend some of your points on powers or merits and some on skills but with a class framework.

Your total character level is sort of a power level for the game. It's a way of creating balance in characters.

Other than "Experience Level", I can't think of anything else right now either. But I'll keep it in mind and maybe my subconscious will come up with something...;)

okay I've added two combat examples - low tech and high tech, examples of character creation for low tech and a high tech character. I've added some material on the combat pages including a hit location page, a new listen check page, and a bunch of other minor changes.

Tell me what you guys think!
