Are you referring to specifically D&D specific monsters?

Anyway, many terms used in D&D have taken on a specific meaning that could be called D&D jargon (a D&Dism?).

E.g. Campaign, Initiative, Morale (in previous editions), even adventure.

Going back to monsters...Yuan ti, Carrion Crawlers, umber hulks

Campaign, Initiative and Morale all come from the wargaming roots of D&D as they are all military terms that are still used.

Tarasque
...

A Tarasque is an old French mythological monster, originally smited.. smoted?... err smote by a lay priest/saint of the Catholic Church.

Edit: D'oh, I had to go and find something cool about the French, damn.

Martial clerics certainly isn't a D&Dism; there have been plenty of instances of priests in chainmail mesh with a mace. The idea of a crusader isn't a new one. One could argue that as being more paladin-like, but the line between the two is often blurred.

I am curious to know if the idea of a magic item convenience store really had an existence outside of D&D. Though that's really a 3rd edition-ism.

Bah. Grippity-gripe, gripe.

Hmm..druids with weapons, perhaps.

Druids ALWAYS had weapons Trick.

Now if you said druids that blinded themselves and scourged themselves with whips, that might be different. :)

Magic Item conveniance stores are something else to consider.

While knowledge about actual druids is a scarce sort of thing, to my recollection, it was taboo for druids to touch weapons.

I'd have to double check this, as it's been a while since I'd heard it and memory is often an ucertain thing, but I do believe you're wrong.

I think that he is referring to posts like some of the ones that I have made lately. If that is the case some D&Dism's off the top -

Frequent Instant Healing
Resurection
Magic shops
The Town Mage - Town Cleric - Town Druid - Town X spellcaster.
The expectation of large amounts of magic in order to combat monsters within the "normal scope of play."
The expectation that players stats will well excede human limits.

There are numerous others that others con contribute but those aresome of the biggies. By no means do I infer that you NEVER see these anywhere else or in any game system but these are inherent to D&D. They are not inherent to Fantasy Hero or Hero System in general (but could be added by a DM). They are not present in 7th sea but that system has its own idiosyncracies. They are not present in GURPs (but could be added). You get my point. D&Dism's.
