Need a new race foe

Yuan-ti would be a really good one. I just need to decide what layer to put them in. I plan on having layers of foes being manipulated by other greater evil behind them.

The PC's will be peeling away layer after layer of evil finding more and more evil dark foes.

The way I did it with Yuan-Ti is to build an organization. At the lowest levels, the Ophidians are the slave race, the grunts, and the typical first contact creature the party encounters. The Purebloods appear near human, and with good disguise, they would be undetectable in most human societies. The Purebloods would make great infiltrators and spies. At the highest levels, Medusas and Nagas could be the real leaders of the Yuan-Ti. Factor in things like human/demihumans working with the dreaded snakemen, and you have a real conspiracy on your hands.

Here is the link to the Wizards material on Yuan-Ti on their website: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=fr/pg20010711x
Great information on Yuan-Ti society and how they operate. In Monsters of Faerun there are some more tidbits on Yuan-Ti, and there are a couple of templates in Librum Equitus II by Ambient that can apply to them as well.

Just in the past few days I ordered and received my copy of Eden Studios' "Liber Bestarius," and it might be a good resource.

The book contains several new races that look fairly interesting. The reptilian Skresh, the powerful-yet-goblin-sized Zug (nothing like a stronger variant of an old monster to throw players off their guard), and quite a few more. Since I just received the book, I haven't playtested any of the races yet. Still, if you can find a copy, you might take a gander through it.

Watch those CRs, though! The Author's Foreword specifically mentions these critters are intended to be really tough for players; it suggests bumping all the CRs by 1 if you "don't want to ratchet up the carnage level of your campaign."

Of course, the author also calls you a coward if you do change the CRs... ;)

The pdf the goy from www.rpgnow.com might be of interest. It is in the d20 fantasy sourcebook section. I haven't seen it but here is the product blurb:

41-pages by J. Lloyd and James Gustafson

Prepare for your new lords.

Can you stand toe-to-toe against these warriors of unnatural speed? Are you able to break the will of these indomitable creatures? Will your magic succor you in these darkest times?

No, of course not. You are the slave and they are the masters.

Inside, you will find:

Four new base classes: insightful Oji, Rojin shadows, Ruhak scouts, and Wudu masters. More than 12 pages worth of details!

Two intimidating prestige classes: Cimadhi (followers of the Chant) and Nijin (goy monks).

The new Frenzied monster template, which goy elders are doomed to suffer!

Twenty new feats, eleven of which are the symbiotic type, allowing empathically linked companions to become more than mere servants.

Eight new weapons and one new suit of armor. Seven pages dedicated to goy dress, psychology, society, and reputation.

Or if you go with yuan-ti they are infamous demon worshippers so you can build from there and make it a called demon behind the whole thing who is on the world in the flesh so that you don't have to deal with the whole lower planes progression. Alternatively make it a cambion/alu demon or half fiendish whatever that is behind the whole thing and leading the yuan ti based on his heritage.

I wasn't thinking it until I read that. Yes, the Creature Collections are good places for this maneuver. However, with the questionable CRs of CCI (a group of mansters nearly wiped out my 5th level party), I'd keep an open mind and have a look at the MANY MANY monsters out there in other products.

Actually not the Creature Collections themselves BUT I was think of two creatures from them. Ratmen/Slitheren OR High Gorgons. :)

I am putting together a campaign idea and at one point there is going to be a major evil race that is either at the center of the trouble or is being manipulated by someone even more powerful.

So what race would you recommend? The Drow have been done to death and I want something more evil and exotic than say the Drueger or something along those ideas.

Here is what I did. Tired of orcs and goblins and whatnot, I decided to use humans as my main enemy. Humans with the Shadow template from MotP that is. Infected with the shadow of their demonic masters, these humans form the core of the armies of the undying Hallitsijainen lords (shadow templated humans who have also become liches or death knights, many of whom are also half-fiendish).

Hobgoblins who have an Oriental Adventures culture, with samurai, shugenja and the like.

Ratmen from CC1. Who can resist using skaven as a bad guy? I've been working them into just about every campaign idea I've tossed around for over a year now.
