hey all, i kinda need a lil help. i have to make a 5th lvl pit fighter/gladiator for a game tomorow. if anyone knows of a dedicated core class that would fit, i'd be very grateful if you would direct me there. my GM has practically every d20 book so, anything is game.

thanks in advance,

Warmain from Arcana Unearthed. Do it. Do it NOW, I say!

Off the top of my head...

5d12 hit dice
numerous armor and weapon proficiencies
The sturdy feat for free (in a nutshell it gives you somewhere around 4 to 8 hit points extra)
Weapon Specialization at 4th

In all, a great class for arena fighter type, IMHO.

"Cityworks" (Fantasy Flight Games) has a pit fighter core class, basically described as "an urban alternative to the barbarian."

For a gladiator core class, there's Mongoose Publishing's "Power Class: Gladiator" and also a writeup in the "Kingdoms of Kalamar Player's Guide" from Kenzer.

Don't have any of the books in front of me to provide details, but hope that helps a little.

The gladiator from the KoK Players guide is an interesting core class. As it levels up it gets all sorts of benefits for fighting in front of crowds and for fighting opponents one on one.

Just give him a dagger of wounding, and a ring of invisibility. Throw the dagger, go invisible, cower in the corner, and wait for the guy to die.

Well, that won't work in 3.5, but would in 3.0.

very cool. thanks guys
... as it turns out, i ended up playing a different character a fighter based around improved feint (with the cosmopolitan feat from FR and skill focus bluff) i'll likely post it when i'm done. i am gonna play the pit fighter character in a few weeks.

thanks to all for the suggestions
feel free to post more if you have them, and feel so inclined.

Could just use the fighter class.

Pick feats that look good or represent interesting fighting styles. Stuff that would make the crowd remember you. Learn/use a couple of unusual weapons that don't see a lot of use (net and trident is a classic). While your objective is certainly to win, you don't necessarily want to be too quick about it. If you want you could set youself to go into the gladiator PrC (sword and fist) from here. Might be worth taking a level of monk also.
