Light of Life: Monk variant

I've always thought monks were pretty neat( haven't played one yet though), but hated the idea they can't multi-class without penalties. :( Dragon magazine issue 310 came up with a few monk variants. Much gooder I say (still haven't used any yet). I have used what they did as a basis for a monk variant combined with a cleric like you asked. Here goes:

Light of life Monk
A monk dedicated to her religious beliefs and a defender against the undead can gain the turn undead ablity at the expense of some of his other talents.

Gain: the ability to turn undead/rebuke undead like a cleric.

Lose: Stunning attack and Deflect arrows feat. (if going off 3.5 version of a monk lose bonus feats at 1st and 6th level)

Mutliclass Option: can multiclass freely between cleric and monk. His monk class levels stack with his cleric levels for determining the turn/rebuke undead stuff (kinda tell I haven't played clerics much either)

I hope this helps you out to think of other ways to combine a cleric and a monk if the options above don't trip your fancy.

Happy Gaming. And may all your dice roll high. :D

Just wanted to add one more thing that I thought of a few minutes after I had stepped away from the computer (gotta hate that when it happens). Any way. I was thinking I kinda short changed the 3.5 monk by taking away 2 feats but giving him only one new ability. Well here is my brainstorm. He could get access to 2 Domains like other clerics, but that would be all the spells he is casting. After all; he is a monk with a bit of cleric flavor, not the other way around.

I'd say this discussion would be most effective in the specific D&D forums where people are more focused on that game. The Lab is an in-character forum specifically for ISRP's The Meeting Place setting. You're welcome to check it out and join in; its D20 Modern-inspired set in New York City 25 years from now.
ISRP is "Interactive Storyline Role Playing", meaning almost entirely free-form within a given setting with specific setting rules. Its played both through in-character posts in the forums and in realtime on our ISRP chat.

Meanwhile, I'm going to move this over to General RPG where there's a lot more traffic tuned to your kind of query. I hope it helps. ;)
