First Post
The party is 6-7th level and Im want to use the maximum number of Gnolls Im allowed
The Gnolls get plus 1 cr for a level of barbarian and Im giving them plus another one for
equipment(Potions) so Im calling them CR3
How many is the max I can use?
If I give them thier treasure as potions and alchemical items how much can I spend?

You are allowed to use as many as you want. I recommend 275. It'll get the PCs running the other way quickly.

Now if you want a balanced encounter, 4 CR 3 creatures is theoretically a fair encounter for a level 7 party.

And as a 7th level encounter, there is an expected treasure value of 2600gp.
If you give each gnoll a potion of cure serious wounds (750 gp each), you can even have them try to drink the party's treasure before dying and have a good chance of succeeding.

You need to work in IT, and work for a big company. The inefficiencies are staggering.

As for the gnolls, I'm thinking of a number.... yes. 78 sounds good.

I find that in rounds when barbarians aren't chopping they aren't really doing any good. Here's what I would do, take it or leave it:

-Keep the gnolls at CR 2, and give them each one cure moderate potion (they should be giving out approximately 600 gp in treasure each anyway as monsters, and CR/level 2 NPCs should technically have 2,000 gp worth of equipment. To get extremely RAW, gnolls by themselves have 300 gp worth of stuff, plus another 900 gp for being 1st-level NPCs. Give them 1,200 gp worth of equipment, and they are still CR 2 by the book)

-Add a level 1 gnoll cleric with a wand of cure light wounds, scale mail, heavy shield, and one-hand weapon.

-Five of the level 1 barbs plus the cleric will be EL 7, a good challenge for your party (2+2 = 4 / 2+2 = 4 / 2+2 = 4 / 4 + 4 = 6 / 6+4 = 7)

Add work for Gov't, while in IT, while in between projects in the first year of a 5yr contract.

A gnoll barbarian 1 would be CR 2; according to the MIV, that means it's entitled to 2nd level NPC gear, or 2,000 gp. Potions of haste and heroism (750 gp each) are always nice for buffs.
