Need help creating a character

Hi, I'm new to the board, but not new to 3e. Here's my problem with as many details as possible.

I'm going to be playing with a new dm soon and need to come up with a character to join a party of newbies. They currently have a fighter, a wizard, a druid, and a ranger. According to the dm it won't be a hack n slash fest, but there will be a moderate amount of combat. The dm is not fond of monks so they are out. He also mentioned that he is concerned about the party's lack of fighting ability. I've also noted the lack of healing. Barbarian, Cleric, Ranger, Bard, and sorceror as possibilities I've looked at. I just can't seem to settle on one choice. Any suggestions?

Hmm...I'd say a good old fashioned warrior Cleric can serve both purposes. Pick a Diety with the War domain and put on some Full Plate. You can heal and kill all in the same fight.

Definately cleric. And if you can find a deity that has war and favored weapon battle-axe, think you're off to a good start. (btw if it's an FR campaign go dwarf and choose Claggendin Silverbeard.)

Yeah, I was leaning cleric after reading the whole thread about their importance. It's not a fr campaign. I'll likely be human because the dm mentioned in his mostly human world not a single party member is human.

So it's a homebrew then? Okay well then good luck. Hope the DM gives you a god with a battle axe cause you might be out of luck otherwise.

that's my only downside to Cleric right now. I"m in the mood to make a character right now, but I don't have my dms gods handy and I know he has his own.

Just pick one with the domains Str and War. You can change them later. Basically all you need to do is get some full plate, a battle axe and a shield, and you're set. (Oh and spells too.)

I'll take this DP to say why.

They are small but this doesn't limit there wildshape, the bonus con come in handy, as you keep the HP as you wild shape. They like nature. The get Listem and alchmey(going to be part of the tea leaves green goo aand other natural things mess of druids) and they get some arcane spells.
